Hystiocytoma-need advice on show puppy!

Hello everyone,

I'm actually writing you all after seeing your board during my research on hystiocytoma. A friend of mine has a 10 month old pug show female that has developed a nickle sized hystiocytoma (diagnosed by vet) on her shoulder.

The vet recommended removing it, however she is really worried that in doing so the 4 inch scar may never regrow hair fully. Pugs have dense coats and seems like any imperfection shows up.

Have any of you that have had your boxers have them removed had any problem with the hair growing back fully. Because this is a show puppy, it adds to that importance.

The vet said they can regress on their own. But with it being the size of a nickel she just hopes if she leaves it for will go away on it's own that it won't continue to grow. She first noticed it about 12 days ago. It was smaller at first. But the vet wanted to give it some time.

Thank you for any advice you could offer. I'd love to tell her I'm optimistic the hair would grow all back if it were removed. But it would be a 3.5- 4 inch scar because they have to kind of go around the growth to remove it.

My boxer has had two....and it appeared to keep getting larger....my vet said it was possible for it to leak.....well, i have so/so news.....one did regrow hair, but the other did not....it was between two toes and the other was under his elbow....the elbow regrew hair, but the toes did not.....sorry i couldn't offer more.....we didn't really care, he's not show and they kept getting larger....one actually got torn when he would play, b/c of the location between the toes.....so, location may be another issue. My show kid had one on his cheek I was fretting over.
They do eventually go away on their own (i've delt with 3 of them on various boxers)
Apply liquid kelp (at health stores) or white iodine (non staining) to aid in the drying process.
The liquid kelp also helps in promoting new hair growth.
They do get worse before they get better

Where would she get white iodine? Oz4lines, so the hair all grew back? How long did it take for the growth to go away and how long before the hair all grew back?

Health nutrician centers or bigger quality drug stores.

About a month 1/2-2 months from start to finish.

After the big eruption (it will come to a head and pop, sometimes oozing blood), it starts to mend rather quickly. The hair growth takes a little longer, but does come back just fine- no odd colors or texture

Tea Tree Oil

My show girl got one about half way up the outside of her ear. It stuck around and grew for about 1.5 months before finally getting smaller and going away. It was never bigger than the tip of an eraser, but oozie and bloody. I put Tea Tree Oil on it, got it at a health food store, and I don't know if it helped or not, but all her hair grew back and we haven't had any recurrences.
