Yesterday we had our 2 year old boxer neutered and while he was there the Vet said that she wanted to test his thyroid because his hair was coarse. Well they said that his thyroid was low, and put him on soloxine 2 X a day. I was looking over the brochure and at different web sites and this actually seems to be his only symptom that he actually has. He is a very healthy playful dog and he never feels cold to the touch. Actually quite the opposite I often think he is hot. The Vet also mentioned something about pyoderma(sp?). But he had a cut on one of his pads and had been licking it quite a bit. I was wondering if anyone thinks I should request the blood work from the vet and have someone else check it before I start giving him the soloxine? And also is it typical for a vet to be able to perform this bloodwork accurately in there office? Any info would be great. Thanks!
