Any advise ??? My 2 1/2 year old boy Duke has injured his back leg some how. He has been limping and sometimes walking on 3 legs. We took him to the vet they checked it and said he pulled a muscle, gave him some anti inflam meds and told us to try and keep him down for about a week (yeah right!!) it didnt get better so we took him back for x-rays, but nothing showed up, nothing broken etc.., they checked his hips too which they said looked great. It has been 1 1/2 months now with no change he is very sad, not being his happy self, has anyone had this happen? does anyone know how long this could last? Tisha

I would go to a different vet for a second opinion right away! Maybe a specialist. Obviously something it not right that hasn't been detected. That condition sounds like it has been going on way to long!!!

Tisha-

Riley hurt one of her knees when she was about 8 months old. We spent about $800 between the regular vet and the orthovet to be told that it was most likely soft tissue damage. They did x-rays, blood tests to test for lyme, and a joint tap. All turned up clear - the orthovet said that the next step would be exploratory surgery (they had ruled out a CCL tear as well). We opted to let her rest for a while to see if she improved...I was not ready to put her threw knee surgery at such a young age. The orthovet said that soft tissue damage can take months to heal. From early November until about March, Riley was doing leash walks only, no off-leash exercise. And until about January or so, she was only getting about 20 minute walks at a time. If your pup has soft tissue damage as well, it can take a VERY long time to heal...but I would definitely take her into another vet or a specialist for a 2nd opinion.

Good luck!

I do not have experience with these symptoms with boxers, but I did have a mixed breed dog years ago that injured her back right "knee" when she was about 6 years old. She ended up needing knee surgery to repair a torn ligament. After recovery from surgery, she could run and jump like before, but she would get a little stiff and still limp sometimes when the weather was cold/damp.

Good luck with your baby! Sending healing thoughts your way.

It could be a torn or partially torn ACL or CCL. Our boy Oscar has been through it twice.

The first time it was only partially torn and he would step on it sometimes but the limp was pretty bad. We had that leg fixed with TPLO (tibial plateau leveling osteonomy), expensive but worth it. A few months after that recovery his other leg went out (very common). This time the ligament was torn and he wouldn't put any weight on it. We had that leg fixed as well (different procedure). He is now back to normal.

All of that and he isn't even 2 yet.

If you have any more questions I'd be happy to answer them.
