I feel your pain...
I am going through the same thing with my 2 right now. They have fought from time to time and hubby and I have managed to learn the art of breaking up a dog fight without getting bit, by grabbing them by the hips and pulling back but that takes 2 people. Today is my first day off work in 7 days and I was exhausted! I work at Ontario Vet College as an Agricultural Assistant helping with animal housing, so needless to say it is a tiring job! I crate my 2 at night so hubby and I can get a good night rest, then we both let them out in the morning and they run downstairs to pee. Today I needed an extra lay in so hubby didnt object to laying with me and we invited the dogs up on the bed to lay on our feet as they like to do. All was fine, tyson inched up to our knees then Sable left the room, she came back in and jumped up again laying on my feet suddenly she got up and ran up the bed and jumped on Tyson bearing teeth it was out of the blue neither had seemed nervous, neither were getting any pats or attention except for both laying with us. They ended up jumping on me and I pushed Sable off me because I would have been in the middle of the fight and she landed on the floor, which thankfully snapped her out of it, I got her collar and hubby got Tyson and I took her downstairs to the mud room for a time out. She looked almost like she was comming for me when she attacked, I am so upset right now, and scared. They have fought before and we did the whole dog listener thing and it worked great we havent lapsed on anything from it yet, we still eat first out of their dishes then let tyson eat then sable. Tyson always goes through doors first, he seems to do everything first except sable has been the one starting fights lately. I just started working again after a few months of not and hubby is still laid off so we cant afford a behaviourist, and I have no small animal clinician friends at work yet. We had a very frank discussion and we may have to re-home sable. Its not for lack of trying we have been doing everything we can to work with her and tyson to get over these problems I have contacted trainers and behaviourists and offered to do work for them at no charge in exchange for help with our problem but no one would help.
I hope all works out for you but we have been coping with this since July, we dont want to give up on them but Tyson keeps getting hurt (most of the time borderline requiring stitches, and a vet trip) and we have to separate them when we go out so they dont fight while we arent here since they dont stop at any cost, I honestly think if we didnt intervene and help break it up they would fight to the death and that hurts me so much. I love them both but I am so concerned for everyone's health and well being. Any advice would be welcomed.
