How to obtain a urine sample??

We just adopted an 11 mo. old Boxer/Border Collie mix, Maddie, from the Humane Society. She had an accident in the house (pee) and it had a really bad, almost fishy smell to it and it stunk up the whole house. The vet said to try to get a urine sample to take to them....but how in the world am I gonna do that? She squats really low to pee so I'm not sure if I could get anything under there to catch it. Has anyone had any luck with this??

Take a tupperware (or something to that effect) and as soon as she squats slip it under her. It may be tricky but this is the only thing I have found that works. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

When I had to get a urine sample from my boxer/pit mix, I used a large nylon serving spoon and as she squated I placed it under her and it was no problem at all, she didn't even know that she was peeing in a spoon. It is really quite easy.

When I had to get urine samples from Emma, I would use the small plastic containers like you get pre-shredded Parmesan or pre-made dips in at the grocery store - they're only about 1-1/2" high. Of course, you have to wash well, then rinse really well as you don't want detergent affecting the quality of the urine sample. I would think one of the small cream cheese containers would also work.

Ummmm....yeah it is :D I really dont like my hands to be dirty.....kinda an OCD thing.... Then again, I dont like taking my own urine samples....Guess I dont love my dogs as much as you guys..... :D There is just a limit of what I will do!

I have a few tips. One is a ladel, or tape the pee cup to a stick, the other is a pie plate

I'm with you! I can't even begin to think how I would get a sample from Conner without being peed ON. I'll add this to my list of things to always have enough money to pay someone else to do. That list seems to be growing faster than my savings!
