How to make moving easier for Roxy??

We are finishing the move this week...Roxy has been alright during this time, sometimes she get confused and we just reasure her that everything is OK, we brought the dogs up to the new house last nite and let her have a look around....introduced her to the land and all the way home she cried in the back seat.....this morning she was mooping around and never ate her breakfast....If anyone has any tips on moving with dogs....please pass them along this way...my dogs have never had another home...

Poor thing! I think they just get scared, not sure what is going on but they know SOMETHING is going on and dont want to get left behind! When we moved we were lucky, the owners of Ping's Parents are good friends of ours and Ping stayed with them for a couple of days.. he loved playing with his parents, he missed us and was soooo happy to see us though, but it helped for us to get moved in and then bring him in so it felt like home eventhough it was a different place.. but I dont know if that is an option for you, I think just reassuring them and lots of love and attention is probably the best thing.. Congratulations on your new home!

We just moved this summer, and it was Lael's first move also. We were able to gradually move small stuff and boxes throughout the week before we actually moved in on a Saturday. Everyday we took her there with us, and every time she acted sad and strange. After we moved in, she would walk around whining and looking at me like, "Mom, Can we go home now?" It was sad. :( We set up her crate, bed, and water bowl first thing and showed her where it all was so she knew where to lay down, get away, etc. She still moped around for about a week before she started to act more like herself. Going on walks and LOTS and LOTS of play and love seemed to help her a lot. We even bought her some new toys and that seemed to help; she was so interested in her toys that it seemed to help her 'take her mind off of it'.

Thats exactly what Roxy has been doing, I am hoping once we bring her crate she will calm down some....my other dog is just fine....

Just to clarify, I guess my suggestion would be: Love & Distraction. If you can distract Roxy with lots of play, toys, cuddles, and just plain fun stuff ... she may forget why she was sad. Also, it helps to associate the new home with good stuff ... kind of like crate training.

Anyways, hope that helps. Hang in there Roxy girl ... it's all gonna be okay.

I guess I am lucky. I've moved twice with Toffee. First from my big house in the country to a smaller house in town (very small town), and then from there to my parents' house in the country. Both of those times, she was completely fine.

I would do as Cat suggested and try to associate the new house with good things--fun play times and maybe some extra treats. Roxy is probably just a little confused. Once you get things settled and she sees/smells her old furniture and her familiar crate, she should be better.
