Fellow Boxer Lovers,

My fiance and I have decided to get a new dog, a playmate for our boxer. Xuxa is a female 10 month old purebread, who is somewhat territorial. She is friendly to other dogs when they are NOT in our home.

We have been thinking about another boxer or a smaller male Boston Terrier.

Your thought and advice on:

Age of new dog should be?
Breed of new dog?
Sex of new dog?
How to introduce the two?

Thank you so much as this is so important.

I can only give you our experience:
We have a 8 year old male Yorkie, Disney, who is very spoiled and isn't your typical Yorkie. He is very energetic and puppy like still. When we got our male boxer, Oskar, he was 8 weeks. What we did was took Disney to neutral territory. (My in-laws b/c he doesn't go there often) When we arrived at the house after picking Oskar up I held Disney and my husband held Oskar. We let them do the sniffing thing for a few minutes. Then we put them down and let them walk around a bit. We separated them after a few minutes as to not get too excited and fight. We kept doing this for a few hours and then took them to our house. At home we kept Oskar in his crate so they can get to know eachother through the wires. But made sure when they were out and playing it didn't get too rough and stepped in when we thought they needed separating. They now get along very well and are funny to watch. Disney can run under Oskar and hides under furniture and Oskar tries to fit under to get him out. Good luck!
