Good morning,

My 6 month old puppy got sap all over himself from the pine tree in our backyard. My husband cut some lower branches off, and now they're oozing sap. Of course, as any curious puppy would, he's been licking the sap, and rubbing against the tree. Does anyone know how to get sap off his fur? And for that matter, any ideas what to do about the tree?

Thank you,

Hannahmack & Zeus

rub the hair between your fingers with cold cream. just don't let them eat the cold cream. and make sure you rinse it off really well. we use a sponge to wipe the area down after we get all the sap loose.
this works great for us.

OMG! I cannot imagine mine sitting still enough for a razor!! they'd definitely try to "attack" it or jackhammer it or something!! sorry i don't have any advice, i just caught this thread and had to read it!

Not sure for the dog, but when we cut lower branches off a tree we went to Lowes and they sell a spray can with "sealent" in it. It sprays black and the sap will not leak out. If you find a small spot where it does leak, just spray more on it. Worked like a charm and now the tree has made a little nub where we cut off the branches!

I agree with Dawn dish soap! Last week, my little Boston Terrier Joey rolled around the yard (we've got tons of pine trees) and ended up looking like a porcupine. He was sticky, his hair stuck together with pine needles stuck to him. ALL OVER him. I didn't know what to do with him so I took him to work with me at the vet's office. Sure enough, they scrubbed him with Dawn dish soap. The little rat was as good as new, lol.
