Hi, I am hopefully going to be adopting a boxer/sheperd mix puppy, 8 weeks old, female, will be spayed before bringing home. I currently have 2 cats, 1 boy adult who is Nutered, and a Female very small adult cat (still semi looks like a big kitten) not spayed yet but I'm not worried about her, I think she will be frightened at first but slowly ease up, I've had dogs before, 2 in fact, 2 blue heelers and one was a evil one who wanted nothing more than my cats for dinner (they never crossed each others path) and the other whom was unsure, he never hurt or struck at my cats, they would sniff and rubb heads nicely with each other, but I think he has other things in mind...or maybe he was just interested in the cat. Anyways..

So I've read ALOT about bringing the dog into a cat home, and my main concern is the dog not liking the cat, but I'm thinking since the dog is going to be spayed and only 8 weeks old she shouldn't fear the cats, and I'm hoping they'll get along fine. but I want to know any and all advice you all can give me to help assure I don't have to give up my puppy because of issues with the cats, thanks for anything if anyone responds, I appreciate it.

In the majority of cases a pup who has been introduced properly to the family cats will be just fine :) If possible, get a cloth with the smell of your new pup on it and bring it home before the pup, so the cats can scent the new arrival - and also take something with the scent of your cats to the puppy. If you have read alot about this and have a plan it should be okay.

Welcome to Boxerworld :) Looking forward to hearing more about your pup, and your cats.

thank you sharon! I will post puppy pics and include my kitties and let everyone know how they all are. I read about the scent thing and I'm gonna do that, I think everything should be fine. I just wanted any additional inside 'tricks' maybe someone used but I think I've read enough to be properly ready for it, thanks for the welcome and reply ;D

to add to what Krikkit said...
i would also give the cats a place of there own that the dog cannot get too kind of a safe haven if they don't already have one.
I would also move the kitty bowls and litter to a place that puppy cannot get too..kitty crunchies are considered a delicacy among many doggies:) good luck and you might also want to do a quick search here...I got some fantastic advice when we first brought our pup home from this board..best of luck!!
