How should I react to this???

I had my babyboy (5yrs) in to be castrated and to have a small lump removed from his hip. Everything went well and he was acting fine. A week later he had some plastic/rubber material in his poop, then he threw up a honkin chunk of it 2 days later. I didnt have anything of that material in the house so I went up to the vet to see if they recognized it. Low and behold it was the rubber matting on the bottom of the crate. When they noticed he had chewed it they removed the mat and let him be. They did notice a few peices laying on the floor of the crate but thought he didnt ingest any. So, they have me bring him in for and X-Ray ("for my peice of mind") and there it was a huge chunk of it inside him. His bowels were filled with gas and a section of it was twice the size of what it should be. They recommended immediate surgery to remove the obstruction. Well, three large peices were removed. So with those and the 5 or so we found in his poop, how did they not notice that there was that much missing? They covered the cost of surgery but the added inconvenience of missing work on a holiday week has been great for me. Should there be more compensation beyond them fixing a problem that happened under their care? I have never had to deal with this kind of situation before and was looking for some advice.

So glad that your furbaby is now on the road to recovery. I have to agree with Tanya&Jazz - at least your vet admitted the error and rectified it. ~ Cathy

That was my thought...to just be glad they took care of their mistake.... I had other people telling me otherwise and really didnt agree but was just curious. Thanks for the responses, I go pick up my big guy today..i think his sis is mad at me for taking him away.
