How old was your baby when you got him/her? It looks like our boy will be 12 or 13 weeks when we get him, and I would like to hear about everyone's experiences. Waiting is really hard!
Austin was 2. We knew we wanted a boxer so hubby spent lots of time on petfinder looking for one. We traveled 2 and a half hours to meet him, that was on a Monday, did all the paperwork but couldn't bring him home till Thursday, since they wouldn't release him without being neutered. That was the longest 3 days!
We got Moucho when he was seven weeks old. We knew when his mother was in labour, saw him when he was five days old- wanted to give her time to settle in to being a new mom. We picked him out that day and visited once a week till we brought him home. The first time we saw him we knew he was THE ONE- he snuggled in to my neck and went to sleep. He's been a real snuggle baby ever since- he's 3 now.
Jackson was 11 weeks on when we picked him up from the breeders. We had to travel 5 hours to pick him up.
I remember walking into the breeders house and seeing this little red boxer racing around the sun room and I thought to myself, how are we going to go with him in the car for 5 hours - but he was a perfect angel. As we left their town he wimpered for a couple of minutes and then curled up on my lap and went to sleep.
As Jackson was one of two puppies left, the breeder had spent quite a bit of time with then and had already started basic training which was very useful.
We got our first boxer, Ladybug, when she was 9 weeks old. We got the boxer we have now when she was 6 weeks old. Those 3 weeks make all the difference in the world when it comes to house training. At 6 weeks they are way to young to even think about seriously housetraining. They are just babies at 6 weeks. I think getting your baby at 12-13 weeks is a good age. Your puppy will have had lots of time with siblings learning. And should be ready to learn with you. Good Luck and I hope times goes by quickly!
We picked up Cassius when he was 8 weeks old...I look back at pictures, and I can't beleive how tiny he was! I think getting him at 8 weeks was a perfect age. Hope the time flies for you!
Willis was just shy of 8 weeks. We met him when he was three weeks and got to visit his litter for an hour every week. Willis was love at first sight... he was always my favourite from the very first photos and whenever we went over he would snuggle on our laps and fall asleep. He also peed on Kris the first time we met him .
