crate training issues

i've got a new 8 week old puppy and i'm trying to crate train him. i've followed along on this and some other threads in this regard and so far have read a lot of good information.

Several people have talked about the whimpering and crying in the crate. Little Napoleon doesn't just cry and whimper when I put him in his crate and turn off the lights. He goes into an all out frenzy. Remember the old Tazmanian Devil cartoons when taz was in a box or a cage?? Thats about the best way I can describe Napoleon in the crate. wow..

common?
just leave him in there and he'll eventually get used to it?

johnc-
i know exactly what you mean. apollo did that for the first two nights and i was very surprised that such a little pup could be so crazy. ;)
i ended up leaving a small light on for him near his crate so he wouldn't be completely in the dark. after the first two nights of chaos were over, he settled down alot. i still left the light on for him for about a week or so. after that he was content at night. i no longer leave the light on for him. imo, it is important that you ignore them in order for them to adapt the quickest. but also, keep in mind that, at 8-weeks, your pup is very young and you should be getting up at least once, if not twice, throughout the night, in order to let him out. i suggest you start a potty training schedule and follow that.

Very proud of my Ali

My Ali is only 6 weeks old and I have had her since Tuesday night. So far she has not had an accident in her crate. She has only gone in the house once. But it wasn't her fault. I wasn't paying enough attention to her. I just hope she keeps up the good work.
