Hi everyone, my name is Gary. This is my first post here but I've been reading for a while. My new baby Lucy is 10 weeks old. I've had her now for 2 weeks and I would like to put her on a BARF diet. I read about it here before I even got her and when I took her to the vet for her first shots, she actually recommended this diet for Lucy. I was kind of suprised, I was expected her to say Iams, Science Diet, or something along those lines. I am currently feeding her Royal Canin Natural Blend for Puppies. My question is, how old does Lucy need to be before I can start switching her over to a BARF diet.
Sorry for the rambling, I'm just really excited that my baby is finally here. Her pictures just got approved--they are from the first day I brought her home at 8 weeks old.

Many Thanks,
Gary

Welcome Gary, where in California do you live?

We started feeding barf when our older one was 1.5 years old, but when we got our second puppy, we started her off pretty much right away. Just make sure that it is grounded up meat and bones at first, then when his teeth are out, you can feed whole bones. Good luck. Oh and start simple, with just chicken and not too much variety all at once.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I live in Suisun City, it's about 45 minutes north of San Francisco.
I Think I am going to start Lucy on ground chicken necks and wings mixed with the Royal Canin I have left to make a gradual switch until I run out of kibble.

Might I suggest to switch cold turkey (or chicken) as it would be the easiest way. I'd be interested in finding out if she'll even want to eat the kibble after her first barf meal...
