How often should a dog urinate in a day?

I ask this question because my last boxer, Annie, urinated every couple of hours or so. Of course, she died of kidney failure, this may be related. But I think she was this way for all or most of her life.

My new boxer, Emma, urinates once in the morning, at noon, at supper, and before bed. We are home, so she could go more often. She is not in a crate except at night.

I am guessing the new one is more correct, but I am curious...probably a bit paranoid as well.

Four times a day if reasonably normal, though most dogs would probably go a little more frequently than that given free opportunity all of the time. I'd be a little surprised by more than about 5-6 times though, for an adult.

Does she get any wet food (canned, fresh, etc) in her diet? Or is it dry food all the way? If it's the latter, and opportunities to pee is not an issue here, you might try to encourage her to drink a little more. Dry food, naturally enough, is quite dehydrating.

Kona goes 5 times minimum per day. Twice before we leave for work, once when I get home, once later in the evening and once before bed.

I'm starting to get worried....my little guy (6 months old) goes twice before we leave for work ... at least once before I get home for lunch .... twice while I'm home for lunch...sometimes again before I get home from work and about 3 or 4 times between when I get home from work and bed as I take him out often....that is almost 10 times....he just had his urine and blood tested during his neutering and vet said all was clear as he had a uti 4 weeks ago .... I am thinking this is way to much ???????

6 months is quite young, at that point I don't think they are completely developed in that department yet so I don't think you have anything to worry about. I am sure one of the moderators will have something better to say and lessen your worries.

I agree with Toss, but I am no expert. Bosco used to pee a lot more than he does now at almost 9 months; he would always do two pees when I took him out. He will still go every time I take him out even if I take him out every hour.

Also, is your little guy lifting his leg yet? I know that when Bosco decides to lift his leg (half the time he still quats) he runs around the yard and lifts his leg several times.

No he is not lifting his leg yet...he is way to small LOL .... He was really small when we got him and he is now up to a whopping 30 lbs at 6 months lol .... Thanks for putting my mind at ease

My Brady is over a year old and still only lifts his leg about half the time:rolleyes: I know puppies learn from watching other dogs and we don't have a male around to show him to lift his leg. We always tease him about being a girl, silly boy. It is pretty funny seeing this 80 pound male squatting in the yard, he doesn't just squat like a male pup but he almost sits down like a girl...too goofy
