Boxer Pal
Hello to all,
I was wondering, I just gave "Bruiser" a bath and I was wondering if anyone can give me suggestions on how often I can give him a bath? He is 11 weeks old and I do not want to dry out his skin. Also, can I get a suggestion on what shampoo to use and what to look for in a good shampoo? Also, should I put any conditioner on him? Thanks for all your help!!!All you guys are great!!!
, Thanks Rich and "Bruiser"

not too often

I do not bathe Nina too often as i do not want to strip the oils her coat makes.
So the breeder told me to only bathe her when she gets too stinky or gets really muddy.
During the days when she gets dirty i use a small towel with just warm water to clean her off.
We have had her for 2 months and i have bathed her twice.
Today was her second bath....she is always scared at 1st but loves being nice and fresh aftrwords and runs like a crazy monkey!!!
I use Maine and Tail shampoo made for horses...our babies hair is almost identical to horses. The shampoo is great...smells nice and it is good for them as well.
You can get a HUGE bottle at walmart..for $7
Just make sure you wrap them in a towel right after or you will have soaked walls!!LOL

Bark n Bath

We use bark n bath products on Gus (www.barknbath.com). I like that they are made from all natural and human grade products, and they smell great, and they are inexpensive to boot! We bath Gus quite often (about once a week) and use a conditioner on him as well as the bark n bath shampoo and it keeps his skin moisturized. We've bathed him once a week or so since he was about 8 weeks old, sometimes even more often than that if he peed in his crate. It's been easy though since he loves his baths, he'll even whine if we are in the shower and shut the door so that he can't come in to play in the water! :)

People might say that we bathe Gus too often, but it works for us... he stays smelling fresh, enjoys his baths, and his skin and fur looks great.

It's key not to bathe your Boxer too frequently. Doing so, as you indicated, can dry out their skin. It's my understanding a Boxer can be bathed about twice per year without issue. I've had Tae a year and bathed her twice. She's clean--does not smell at all--and I'm kinda anal when it comes to cleanliness, if that says anything.

The few times Tae has gotten really dirty, I have used a towel and baby wipes and the dirt came off really easily. Now, if your pup gets muddy, you may want to bathe him more frequently, but if you are just wondering what is generally necessary, I've read in books and on BW that about twice a year is reasonable.

Here's a link to some info about baths on the puppy page (scroll down to it on the page):

I was reading this post and I thought to myself...my baby gets dry skin when I bath him on an average of 2 weeks. So I tried Gus's moms idea with also applying conditioner. And let me tell you THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE FOR HIM! His coat couldn't have been shinnier, he seemed happier and best of all NO DRY SKIN.

So, I personally want to thank you!

I bathe her every two weeks

I don't know about ya'll, but Doja sleeps with me and she likes to get real close.... So, its a must that she be clean and smell good. I usually take her in the car, if I can smell her with the windows up, she needs a bath. Her coat is beautiful and shiny.... However, I did notice that when she was eating science diet, her hair along her spine close to her tail was really rough and course..... She has been on CS fully, with no science diet mixed in, for about 2 weeks now... and her hair is returning to the way it should be. But I also thought about conditionar, havent tried it yet, but I will get some and see how it works.....

Were going to a boxer meet this weekend in Austin, so we know she has to look beautiful!
