We paid $1900.00 for Daisy. She came from a very well-known show breeder in NJ and has a great pedigree (one of her cousins was the boxer that won her breed in the show that was televised Thanksgiving day--just a little brag!). Our main concern was of course longevity and temperment and no price is too high for that. His show quality boxers go for up to $2500.00 and sometimes more but then you have to get into the "politics" of co-ownership. No, thank you! We later found out from the NJ Boxer club that we overpaid for her and so we will not be going back there for our new boy (because of that and other reasons). All of our research and time spent finding a reputable breeder (about 2 years before we brought her home) ended up costing us a fortune! Though I'm very happy that she is ours and wouldn't trade her for the world, I will be very weary when it comes to finding another breeder when we get our boy.

Got fawn non-flashy Fritzi for 750. from a breeder south of Boston, MA. Her flashy sister was 1400. and flashy brother 1600. That was 4 yrs ago but prices are still in that range. I know in this area (Boston) English Bulldogs start at about 2000. and Harlequin (Black & White) Great Danes have sold for 4500. :eek: I suppose there is a market for anyone, I've seen ads for Bullies and Danes for a lot less but I figure it must be the pedigree that drives up the price. Around here if you pay a lot some breeders have you sign something guaranteeing you will not spay or neuter your expensive dog :( That doesn't go over to big here at the Dog Park - people around here shun people for stuff like that - unless they are reputable breeders.

I paid $200.00 for my male because he was from rescue, and he was 10 months old(it was also a tax write-off so basically he was free!) And I paid $200.00 for my female when she was an infant because my friend was the breeder(the bitch was health tested as was the stud, but not akc, like I care.) Anyway if you are looking for a new boxer baby I have to recomend rescue. They are great boxers and need good homes. They will give you love thousands of times over just for adopting them. And often times it is a tax write-off so it is a free boxer. If you aren't into adopting a boxer may I suggest that you look at a rescue website and see the pictures of these babies that need homes, and I am sure your heart will melt.

No, please don't name names. It's irrelevant, actually, because there are other breeders charging almost that much for a pet puppy. Charging $3000 because someone used the #5 Boxer stud in the country is also ridiculous. (How did she determine that he was the #5 Boxer stud, anyway? There's no ranking for stud dogs. Or is he the #5 Boxer overall, who happens to be a dog, or just the fifth-highest rank male Boxer in the conformation statistics? And what ranking is her bitch, to justify that high of a price tag?)

An interesting side note - the fifth-highest-ranked male Boxer all breeds as of October 31, 2002 (most recent stats posted) is the #15 Boxer overall; bitches are really having a great year - in fact in the top ten, there are only two dogs. Overall it's a 50/50 split. In the breed rankings, there are 12 bitches and only 8 dogs.
That's very unusual - generally the dogs dominate the rankings.
(I know probably no one cares about that, but I find it fascinating! ;) )

Julie, I'm not exactly sure what she meant by #5 Boxer stud, but perhaps she did mean #5th Boxer in the country? I do agree though, the price is rediculous. She said she flew across country for the breeding (which I also find strange).. Anyway, she never got back to me about the puppies. Wouldn't it be funny if the litter only consisted of one or two pups? I wonder how much she would charge then... $10,000 each?? :rolleyes:

I could be wrong, but I think that is actually common amongst breeders. Reputable breeders want to better their lines so if the best champion dog (in their eyes) lives across country, then some do make the journey. Like I said, I could be wrong, but I don't think this is as strange as you may think. ;)

The breeder we visted today is very careful to add new blood to their lines. The mix in their lines now consist of canadian/usa, italian, hungarian, german and one other I can't remember. They fly the dogs in (to canada) for the breeding, or end up buying the dog as a pup for the purposes of breeding.

Not sure how much they are charging for pups, as we didn't ask - yet. I'd expect to pay them around $900 for a pet. For Jersey we paid $500 with no pedigree, before we really knew any better.

It happens. It's generally less of a hassle to fly the semen and not the bitch, but if you want a vacation....;)

Where is she from? The #5 Boxer is in MI, and fifth-highest ranked male all-breeds is in MA, the fifth-highest ranked male in the breed is in CA. (Which may help you narrow down which male she used, although I suppose it really doesn't matter - I'm just nosy that way. ;) )
