How much does your boxer eat?

Diabla is 1 1/2 years old and she eats Canidate, her normal weight is 49 pounds. I feed her about 6 -8 cups a day plus I give her fruit and veggies and yogart. If I cut back even a little she will lose weight fast. I use to worry about feeding her so much but she is healthy and happy. She just has a high metabolism. I have been tring to get her over 50 pounds for about 4 months now. She just is going to be a small boxer. I am waiting for her to fill out in the next year or so.

Junior is almost 10 months old and weighs between 55-60 pounds. I feed him about 3 cups of Nutro Lamb and rice formula a day - he loves it. 1 cup in the morning and 2 cups in the evening mixed with rice or chicken or yogurt, what ever i have handy.

Actually, she sounds at about the right weight, for an 18 month old. Remember, Boxers grow upwards until about 18 months or so, then fill out between 2-3 years.

That being said, I would be very hesitant (to say the least) in feeding a Boxer that much food. She hasn't even filled out yet (both of my dogs gained about 10 - 15lbs from age 2-3). At this rate, you may end up with a pretty obese Boxer.

Shilo eats 2 cups, three times a day and she is super lean. Cut back her intake even by a smidge and she drops weight instantly.

Our dogs eat the same amounts.......
Mack at "about 75 lbs" give or take - and Lulu at 48lbs.
They eat one cup kibble for breakfast with a "glop" of yogurt and some fruit. For dinner they have another cup of kibble, 4 oz fresh meat, fish or dairy and 1/2 cup pureed veggies.
Mack is constantly in trouble over his weight (he's 6) and Lulu (a young rescue - probably about 2) is slim and muscular on the same amount of food and less exercise - go figure.
Both of them......just once in their life.........would like to decide when "enough is enough". They are both food obsessed and on "alert" when anything resembling food enters their realm.

Actually I was very worried about feeding her that much. Before I knew better I feed her Iams and the main reason I started looking into other foods was the amount she ate. I had the vet check her out and she was fine. And I have tried to cut back but even if I cut back by a cup a day Diabla will start to lose weight FAST. About a pound a day. After a week she had dropped 5 pounds.

I live on the third floor and I do not want her to be obese. It would be too hard on her. But she was just fixed and as she gains weight I will adjust her food. Diabla would eat twice as much food a day if I would give it to her.

how Much to feed

Hello, I haven't posted in probably 2 years.

My boy Athos is almost 4 and exactly 90 pounds. He is big, tall and lean. I recently scaled his feeding back to approximatly 2 1/2 cups morning and night. I've noticed this past few days alot more chewing behavior that we thought he had grown out of...

So the first part of the question... is he not eating enough, or just pissy because we've cut his food back...

How much do you folks think a Purebred Boxer of this size should eat??

Luke is 4 years old and weighs 95 lbs., he eats 3 cups of wellness or natural balance (we rotate) a day. Lex is 4 and weighs about 76 lbs., she eats the same amount. We give them raw bones or bullysticks to chew on almost every night.Lex loves them but Luke seems to need them to satisfy him.

Max on Nutro Lamb and Rice

I just put Max (3 months old) on Nutro Natural Choice Lamb and Rice. (adult not puppy one) It says to feed for his weight 2 1/2 cups a day. I am still feeding him that amount, spread through out 3 times a day. This stuff is making the hair grow back on his boo boo on his heaad, he has had since we got him three and a half weeks ago!! We didn't think it would cover with hair, thought it was going to scar! He has been on it since Sunday. I give him 3/4 cup each feeding, sometimes he doesn't eat it all, and I thought you were supposed to take it away after 20-30 minutes even if they don't eat it all. But then, Max is on the skinny side, you can see his ribs, and he has looked that way since he came home with us almost 4 weeks ago! When he gets a Kong at night, he sometimes doesn't eat all his food. Should I NOT take his food away since he a little underweight? They gave him another wormer almost three weeks ago, so he should be gaining weight, but he WAS on Pedigree for large breed puppies before I switched to Nutro. Any comments??? Thanks!
