Completely Boxer Crazy
Hey,
I know that boxer puppies are supposed to be skinny, but Sascha has been starting to look practically skeletal lately. According to the directions on her food bag(Solid Gold Hund n Flocken) she should be eating about 2.5 cups a day. We give her close to 4 cups, plus pumpkin on top in the morning and yogurt on top in the afternoon. In addition to that she also gets tons of treats, and the occasional kong(usually stuffed with banana, kibble, yogurt and peanut butter). She inhales everything we give her. I don't want to feed her more, because I feel like we already feed her too much. i know you're supposed to be able to see there last three ribs, but we can see more of hers, and if she stands a certain way you can see her backbone too. Is this normal? Her momma was really skinny too. Her owners had to free feed her just to keep weight on her(although she did live on a horse farm, and run around chasing horses all day). What do you think? Should we feed her more, or is she ok?

The feeding guidelines on the back of foods are basic guidelines. As every dog is different, it's likely your baby might need more food right now. In the middle of growth spurts, I feed Sam a bit more - to make sure he's still healthy, but not enough to make him fat. I keep a close watch on his ribs and spine and how much he eats. . .

Rocco's Mom

Super Boxer
I am so glad you posted this....I was just going to post a similar thread myself. We are also feeding our 14 week old pup Rocco Solid Gold Hund-N-Flocken. Right now he's getting 3 cups a day but he's always looking for more. We aren't giving him too many treats right now though because we just switched his food so we're trying to see how this one goes because of runny poop. Anyway, I was thinking about giving him 1 1/4 cups per feeding and maybe 1 1/2 in the evening since this is the longest stretch with no food until the morning. I just don't want to over feed him and end up with an overweight puppy needing a diet by Christmas!

P.S. have you tried the Solid Gold Lamb jerky treats ? I have been putting it in his Kong and he goes crazy for it. Good for training too!

My Brandy

Boxer Pal
Brandy eats like a Russian Racehorse and she still looks for more more more. I guess it depends on the dog. Some days she eats alot some days she wont. I will keep lookin on here for some tips too. all of you are so helpful!

Also if anyone has tips on snacks please let me know. Brandy does not like the regular doggy treats.
