How many treats?

I have a 9 week old boxer and am in the process of trying to housetrain/teach him simple commands (come, sit, no, his name, etc...)

I bought a bag of tiny little peanut butter soft chew treats today and he loves them. I was teaching him the come command and after having 1 or 2 treats he knew what to do. After about the 3rd treat I stopped giving them to him until every 3rd or so successful come command.

During today's potty trips I gave him 2 once after each time he went and praised him.

My question is how many treats are too many? Should I give him treats consistently for a few weeks until he gets the idea and then reduce the amount given? I'd like to keep giving them to him during his potty trips so he learns that well.

Any input appreciated :)

There should be a thing on the side of the treat bag/box that says how many is good per day. A good idea that isnt bad is cherrios. Addie loves them. (just the plain kind) these work great for training as they are small and dont hurt them. I also have learned to mix up the treats, as they wont get bored if they never know whats coming.

The cheerios is a good idea, I'll have to see whether he likes those or not. I looked on the little bag (Zuke's Mini Naturals bought from Petco) and they didn't give a feeding amount, just says that they're perfect for training. Thanks for the tip though :)

You're welcome. My trainer gave me the tip. Just make sure they are the plain original ones. (they dont have all the sugar) I had the same worries when we got Addie, I didnt want to make her fat :)
