need to go out during the night to do BOTH of his things.

my Chewy is up to three from two.
1:30 am, 3:30 am and 5:30 am

I fed him at 4:30 yesterday hoping it would go through his system a little faster, but it just keeps coming out :P

LOL - try changing the timing of his morning meal instead ;) Kibble takes around 12-14 hours to digest, so it isn't the remains of his evening meal he's expelling at 3am...

Jada our 12 week old puppy has been sleeping through the night for almost 2 weeks now. She goes in her crate around 11 pm and we get up around 7 am. I'm not sure if this is normal or not.

Well, if you feed him by about 8 in the morning or earlier, then he should need to potty by about 10pm or so. You could encourage him along by giving him a bit of exercise around that time/before bed. Nothing like running around to get a dog's bowels moving LOL And if you know he's pooped before bed, you can be reasonably safe in ignoring any wish to go out before morning, just in case it is largely habit.

I wouldn't recomend one feeding a day. A lot of boxers get upset stomachs if it is too long between meals. Feeding large quantities of food at a single sitting also increases the risk of bloat. So from all perspectives, feeding twice or more a day is better for him that just once.

Thats what i am afraid of, hes making a habit of it, i think he realizes that when he smacks the crate door around he will be let out, He goes outside and takes care of his business but then its a struggle to get him back in the crate for the remainder of the night. im a light sleeper so as soon as i hear that smack i am on the lookout, hes had accidents in there a couple of times and i dont want to start cleaning it up at 4 am so i am figuring better safe than sorry :P
This could be creating a bad habit.

Sorry but i have another question, how much should i feed him each time? less in the morning (1 cup) more at night (2cups)?

I used to have a german shepard years ago and i trained him from a pup to eat only once a day (evenings) and he did fine with it. Boxers cant be reaised in this manner?

Well if you can get him to poop before bed (definitely try the exercise thing if he isn't keen - it really helps to get the bowels moving ;)) then you can be reasonably sure it is safe to ignore him when he wants out his crate in the middle of the night. LOL - I can't guarantee no accidents, but if you know for certain that he's already pooped recently, then it is probably fairly safe.

I'd just split his meals 50/50 myself. Boxers, being a deep chested breed, are more prone to things like bloat than GSDs, and since research has shown eating large meals to be a risk factor, I personally wouldn't go with once a day feeding.

UP all night!

Hello, Natas is 14 weeks....he now sleeps through the night but it did take awhile. I can tell you that when he bangs on the door you have to ignore him! If you know that he has already been out anyway. I go to bed everynight at 11pm and get up every morning at 7:36am. My alarm is set for 7:36am but Natas will always everymorning wake me up at 7:34am! He used to get me up at all hours of the night, so I started taking up his water 3 hours before bed and walking him just before bed. Once I knew that he didn't have to go out, I would ignore his pounding on the gate. I mean really ignore too, I didn't say anything or even breath in his direction after three nights he stopped and would fall to sleep. Once he knew that I wasn't going to give him attention he stopped.

I know how you feel. My 4 month old boxer did the same thing. He would cry and want to get out of his crate every 2 hours. Now he goes to sleep at 11pm and gets up anywhere between 5:30 - 7:00 am. Most of the times I get him up at around 6:15am because I need to get ready for work.

I feed him every morning at 7:00am and 7:00pm.

Lot of times, he may just want to get out. He has to start learning to hold it in longer.

BTW, How old is you boxer.

The breeder told me to feed him 1 cup(16oz) in the morning and night. He is 4 months old yesterday and he weighs 24 lbs
