I was just wondering, (after wishing Goliath a happy 13th birthday), how many senior boxers do we have here, and what really constitutes a senior?

I just love the grey faces, and extra character. After of course the smooshy face, I was finally totally sold on a boxer, when I read that they stay young at heart, with a happy spirit that loves to play even into their old age.

There is nothing more adorable than that distinguished gray face that our seniors have.

Right now I have two oldies. One is a little over 11.5 and the other is 10.5.

Some Boxers may look like seniors, but they sure never act that way :D

We have two nine year old girls here - Bella, at 9.5, is still competiting happily and successfully in agility and earned her AAC (Australian Agility Champion - much coveted) title in September. Layla is very active but retired from competition as she has arthritis in her foot (bad injury many years ago, toe amputated).

My first 3 Boxers all lived well and happily into thier teens.

A senior gallery is a really nice idea :)

My boxers are 3 years old. I had 2 seniors at differents times. One lived to be almost 13 years old and the other one was 10. I too love the gray faces.

A senior gallery would be great!

But at what age does a dog become a senior?

Billy is almost 7 and is very grey around the muzzle - but he doesn't act like an old dog - apart from his wonky knees.

My husband's previous Boxers were only 8 and 9.5 when they died and they were 'old' dogs.

So how old is senior?

Love those Oldies.

Here in NZ we have veteran or senior dog at 7 years old.
Some specialty shows will also have Grand Veteran which is 10 plus years.
Its lovely to see the oldies strutt their stuff and compete etc.
When they come into the ring they are given a heros welcome.

Everyone claps loudly and a little biography is told for each dog.
My Knight competed and won Veteran and it was always an honour to show him off.

Many boxers here live long and healthy lives so older dogs are being seen more nowdays, which is wonderful!
Just today my dear old Rose who is 10 plus, almost caught herself a little field mouse.
Course there really was no contest but it was hilarious to see the old gal in all her glory tearing up the garden trying to "get" the mouse!
I too think an oldies gallery would be great!
