This is mearly out of curiosity... I was wondering how many puppies boxer whelp on average. Almost every little I see or hear about has at least 5 or 6 pups at a time. But when I was growing up my parents had Boston Terriers and when bred our girl had 4 pups in both litters, only two were stillborn in the second litter. Does the size of the breed play a major role in the number of puppies produced?
Thanks for your input.

Yes, generally speaking smaller breeds have smaller litters. The average for Boxers is 6-8 puppies - but of course there's huge variation there! :)

Litteraly - Sorry about the pun!

Well, my boxer, Sierra, gave birth to 9 live puppies, no still borns. She just had them on the 7th, and her and the puppies are doing really well. I, on the other hand, am tired. These puppies really are a little bit of heaven, but they are also a handful. Mom is doing well with feeding but with 9 puppies I have to make sure they are all getting there fill which means I sepperate some of the puppies at a time and let the others feed.

Sierra was from a litter of 7, and my other boxer, Ryly, was from a litter of 13 of which only 3 survived and had to be raised by hand because the mother did not want to feed them. (Mourning sickness!)

Hope this helps

My Cally has had two litters. Her first litter was a litter of 9 and she now has a litter of 6. They are three weeks old and just precious. I have noticed a lot of difference in her the first and second litter, she isn't nearly as tired. No matter how many they are great. Wouldn't change them for anything.
