how long before symptoms show up if they are allergic to a new food... recently my dog got bumps all over its face and head it has been eating chicken soup for about 3 weeks.. I was wondering if it could be that or something else.

Can allergies show instantly also? I fed something and before he was
even done he had red bumps on his tummy and the inside of his ears
were red and the white on his chest was pink. :( I switched immediately
and he was fine.

Allergies can show instantly (particularly to similar allergens - say duck, when a dog is already allergic to turkey). But more commonly they're something that develops over time - with constant exposure.

it could be something he got into I guess. He was at my parents house for a weekend playing with there border collie. I gave him one 25mg benadryl last night and will move it to 50mg tonight and see what happens he is not itching them but he looks like a teenager with bad acne. He is 56lbs so 50mg should be fine.

It depends on how sensitive they are to the allergen. Some reactions can happen instantly, some can take hours, some days, weeks or months. It really is hard to say. That is why allergies are so hard to diagnose sometimes.

Kona is allergic to a certain vaccination (Lepto.)nd she did not react to it until 5 hours after the second shot which she received 2 weeks after the first shot. If she ever gets it again it may kill her. Not worth the risk in my opinion.

Alot of times the initial exposure sets the body's sensitivity up and the next exposure could be deadly - as in bee stings.
