That one dog can be so much like another???

When Killian died, it was like a part of me died with him. Call me overly emotional or a wierdo, but it is true. He was mine and my husand's first "kid". He was on of those "soul mate" dogs. The ones that you just bond with to the extreme and love so much it hurts.

When we decided we were ready for another dog, we obviously knew we could NEVER replace Killian, and had no earthly intention of trying. We just knew that we wanted another Boxer baby to love. We started our research and found a great breeder that had a litter available. We filled out apps, sent references and photos, and interviewed over the phone with the breeder , and after being approved, we drove to Chicago to pick up our new family member. I have to admit, when we drove from the hotel to the breeder's house, I was a nervous wreck, wondering on the way there what this new puppy would be like, and if we were making a mistake in getting another pup so soon.

I am being completely honest when I say as soon as I picked Cooper up and held him, I knew that he was going to be an awesome dog. I just knew. So did my DH. I met his grandfather and his mother and I just cried right there. We made the right choice. This was our puppy.

Ever since we brought Coop home, he has proven to me every day that we made the right decision. I believe that Killian sent him to us. How else could it be explained? He has the same sweet and loving demeanor. He has the same mannerisms and habits. He comes to me so sweetly and calmly, and, laying his head in my lap, lets out the most contented sighs and looks into my eyes just like Killian did.

I am just so thankful for him and for Killian. If not for Killian I would never have known the love of a Boxer, of a canine best friend. And if not for Cooper, I would never have known that even after the pain of losing such a great friend, that a friendship like that can be found once again...

It does sound like Killian had a paw in sending Cooper your way,and that he would have wanted you 2 to know the love of another wonderful dog, another forever best friendlovicon

I know how you feel. I believe Abby sent Sydney to me. She acts and looks so much like Abby. I just can't kiss her enough.

I know exactly what you mean. When Champ passed away it was like a part of all of us went with him. We knew we wanted another boxer but we knew in the back of our minds that our new addition could never be as wonderful and loving as Champ was. We did our research and found a rescue boxer baby that we thought would be perfect for us and for Oscar, we drove to Louisville to get him. When we got there, there was some miscommunication and another couple adopted the dog we went there for, we were devastated. But something kept us there a little while longer, and here comes Rufus. He was young and a little wild but he kept coming back to him. We walked him with Oscar and I took him for a jog, he was great. The BF and I knew that this was our new baby. It was like fate, or Champ, directed us to him. He has such a similar personality as Champ, a wild child with a heart of gold. It's strange how things work out sometimes.

Sounds like you have been blessed with Coop, and Killian had a paw in it :) My Nysa on the other hand could not be more different from my sweet Ailis that I lost. But I guess that can be good too-if nothing else it reminds me everyday how special Ailis was and dogs, like people, are truly individuals :)

I'm glad Killian was still watching over you ,by sending you to Cooper. That little angelicon knew you needed something to help heal your heart. I find that our hearts are remarkable in that they expand and make a place for more love.

It certainly sounds as though Killian sent Cooper your way for a reason! ;) We take care of our babies for their whole life and they watch over us forever! lovicon

Our first boxer Buster who lived to 13 years was such a stoic, majestic, intense, playful and stubborn dog with a total super personality, this dog was why we love the breed so much. We had him from 86 to around 99. We then got Pancho who was a totally great but different personality with very distinctive boxer behaviors but his own.

Around 2001 I was fostering boxers and I was fostering a deaf white boxer, first experience with a white boxer and a deaf dog. We kept him and named him Buster too but we didn't know how much he was like his namesake when we did this. We saw so many of the identical behaviors, expressions, etc., we did believe Buster was re-incarnated a couple of times, it was great.

We are boxerless for the time being but it will always be our favorite breed, there is no dog like them.
