How I know I like someone...

Since getting Zoe I have found that I judge if I like someone new by how they react to her. People who go Ga-ga over her make the top of my "like" list. Then there are those who will give me "the look" as Zoe attempts to bound over to them (of course she is on a leash so never even gets close) - What's with them? How can you not want to gush all over a cute baby like Zoe? Those are the people who end up at the top of my "don't like" list. Am I weird? My mom always used to tell me that you can't trust someone who your dog doesn't like and who doesn't like dogs. Guess I'm just following her advise!

I am kinda the same way. My mom used to always say that a dog is the best judge of someone's character and I totally believe it!!!

AMEN!! I am with you!

I always say "love me, love my dog!" How a guy reacted to my dog was a key indicator for me when I was dating . . . if he hugged and loved on my pup, it was a good sign! If he avoided the fur-baby or rolled his eyes at my doting, he was a goner for sure! :)

I totally agree!!:) My Mom used to tell me something along the same line! After meeting people who don't like dogs, I just wonder how they don't fall in love with Kita's smoosh face!! I am biased, of course, but never understood how you couldn't love her. I have a sign that hangs right inside my front door that says love me, love my boxer!! I always think to myself if someone thinks my dog isn't worth getting to know, then that person isn't worth it, either.

I really think it has been a pretty accurate way to tell if I will get along well with someone too. I am a people person and *can* get along with pretty much anyone, but if they don't like my dog, then I don't see a future for a real friendship. :) LOL.. I guess maybe it is just that I am not at all one of those "prissy" people and the people that are afraid to get a little dog hair or slobber on their clothes or are just generally uninterested in dogs are not the type of people that I would want to hang out with.... :) Give me the boxer crazy people at BW any day!!! :)

My roommate doesn't like dogs at all (my boxer doesn't live with me) and I just don't understand it. She's a great person and all but I like to talk about Enzo or about work (I work at a dog daycare) and I just can't carry a conversation about it with her. I don't use it as a judge of her personality but my best friend is a dog lover!

Yeah I have a bit of a problem with that too. A couple of my friends cant stand Harvey and shriek when he dares brush past them or sniffs them. they make me keep him on a lead when they come over so lately i just haven't been asking them to come over. Harvey gets so confused as to why they wont even give him. it really irrittates me! but on the other hand, my boyfriends friends just adore harvey and get him so revved up when they come and visit...which can also be a little irritating as it teache shim bad habits!

I agree totally! Mostly I think that dogs are a great judge of character. My Rock has only growled at one person, he would not let this guy near me. A few weeks later I found out he was a serious weirdo. Unfortunately he lives right across the street. Rock will sit in the dining room with his chin on the sill and just stare and growl at him all day.

Dogs are sooo smart. And, at 80lbs he makes a pretty intimidating window piece. I'll just let the neighbor believe he is going to eat him-LOL!

On the other hand, my MIL, who is a dachsund lover spent the weekend with us. By Sunday afternoon she had made up a new song. "Big dogs need love, too!" (to the tune of: I'm a big kid now) My opinion of her changed a great deal this weekend. :)

In all fairness some people are genuinely afraid of dogs. Some may have had a bad experience with a dog or never had any around. Some people are afraid of what THEY think is a mean looking dog (Boxers are mistaken for pit bulls all the time). I don't see a resemblance at all ...but some people are not dog smart.
We know our babies, they do not and therefore they don't know what to expect.
As silly as people sound when they shreik at our babies (it drives me a little crazy myself) especially when they KNOW the dog is friendly, I think we all need to respect how they feel.

My MIL is the same way with my babies. She comes over more often and when she does, she always has a gift for all of them and they love her! :)
