How does your Boxer pee??

We rescued Lulu off the street about 5 weeks ago and she is our first Boxer (see signature line).

Our late, dear, dear Polly, a Jack Russell, was very dominant and when we walked her she would sniff everywhere and at every opportunity would just drop a few dribbles where she smelled another dog. Eventually her bladder would be empty and she would perhaps be straining at the end of a long walk.

Lulu, on the other hand, does sniff but does just one wee on a walk - a huge one! We call her Rio Lulu! Her bladder must be very big. She doesn't seem interested in covering the areas she sniffs and finds interesting. Is this normal?

Most females will empty their bladder without the need to mark. I say MOST....not all. My pup is marking when I allow it, which isn't often if I can help it. Your JRT sounds as if she was a "marker" and just as with the majority of males will mark multiple times on a walk.
Perfectly fine for your female now to empty at one "sitting" for lack of a better word!

yea my girl also empties at one sitting sometimes it takes her a good minute or two to finish which is ok with me. pooing on the other hand can be a bit frustrating it takes her forever to find the perfect spot and she is very particular, we have a creek behind our house and she has to poo in it. She has the right idea you poo in water now if I could only teach her to go on the toilet .

I don't know about you, but I much prefer that over a dog that feels the need to mark every 5 steps!

Juno is only a marker when we're at the dog park. That's when she likes to pee on top of all her favorite sniffing spots. On regular walks though, she'll usually just pee at the very end if it was a longer walk.

My first girl was a marker, even more so than my boy. Arabella on the other hand doesn't even like to pee outside of her own yard! She will hold it for the whole walk and we get home can't wait to get into our backyard and go. Normally not an issue, but when we travel this can be a big nuisance. On her first trip she held it for 13 hours! Of course when she finally decided she had to go we were stuck in a traffic jam and I couldn't pull over. Thankfully, I was in a SUV and I had a dog bed down that I could throw in a washing machine.

I have two males -- one marks every weed, sign post, street light, fire hydrant, tree, shrub, etc., etc., that he can and the other will empty his bladder completely during a single standing/squatting. Either method is normal.

Capone marks the entire walk but never in the backyard. Rowdy empties his bladder in one sitting.

Fudge has never peed at all on a walk....or done a poo either come to that, except in the yard.

Lulu sleeps on the patio but is quite 'patio trained'...to the extent that something woke her at 5.45a.m. this morning and she barked to tell me she wanted a walk. That is an hour earlier than usual. After a wee and poo on the walk I shooed her back on to the patio and an hour later I had to wake her up for her scheduled walk!

I was determined not to feed her after the first walk which is what she was expecting because, I felt, if I did she'd be calling me every morning at the earlier time. Not what I want!

That falls in line with the best advice I ever got (from my pediatrician but I'm sure some vet out there would give the same:

"Never do anything once, no matter what, unless you want to have to continue to do it for another 18 yrs!" LOL Love it and it is SOOO TRUE! Even for our furbabies!
