How do you train your boxer to run without pulling you or tripping you? Me and Ali just started jogging well mostly walking every morning at the park on a track and he pulls me and almost makes me fall or keeps crossing my path and almost makes me trip and fall on my face. Is there anything I can do to train him how to stay on one side of me and walk at the same pace as me? And also he is a year old last month and before this he didn't get much exercise. And now that I have time he when we go to the park he wants to poop and spay on everything until there is not an ounce of pee or poop left in him then he just walks with me. Is that normal? I assume it is but just checking and will he eventually stop?

Is Ali neutered yet? If he is not, then the spraying and pooping everywhere is to mark 'his' territory.

If he is neutered, it's still the same issue.

But if he's not, then you should seriously consider neutering him asap.

You will have to work on his leash manners a bit - has he had any training? A basic obedience class would probably help teach you how to teach him leash etiquette. :)

No Not Yet

Unfortunatley no he did not have any formal training just the old fashioned way. And he is not neutered because his dad seems too think that neutering him too early will stunt his growth I of course don't believe that. He will be getting neutured soon. Until now we hadn't been able to give Ali the attention he needed because we both work crazy hours 24/7 but now I don't have a job and I am with him 24/7 so no I can go to training with him and everything. It's not too late is it? I mean for him to start training?

It's never too late for training!!

And nuetering won't stunt his growth!! It'll be better for him in the long run!

My DW and I tried jogging with Daisy at separate times right after we got her when she was 12 weeks old. We had the same problem, she'd run in front, behind, trip us or slam-on-the-breaks.

She is now almost 6 months and doing much better. Six weeks ago Daisy and I started going to obidience training and that worked wonders. I jog with her a least twice a week, we went this morning in fact. Almost no problems at all. Today she tried to run into the street twice and fell behind a little, but a quick, sharp DAISY HEEL and a tug on the leash, got her right back where she was supposed to be.

I suggest finding a good obidience class. We go to our community center, it cost $45 for 8, one hour classes on Satuarday mornings. So worth it!!!

12 months of age is still too early to take him jogging. You risk permanent damage to his joints before the age of 18 months, which is when his growth plates fully close. Feel free to do a search on "jogging" (and "neutering" while your at it). It's actually optimal to neuter him before 6 months of age, before puberty sets in. While its too late for that, you should definitely make an appointment ASAP.

Good luck

I did a search on jogging and found a bunch of posts, but the ones I read didn't provide links to studies or articles regarding this.

I'm not challenging you, I would just like to read more about this topic.

My Vet, who puts in time at UC Davis, has also warned me about "forced exercise" before those growth plates are done. I don't know where to find a study, sorry, but if you read my "intro" you will see why she knew my #1 puppy concern would be Hip Dysplasia and possible contributing factors :(

You could do a search on growth plates and when they close. Until then it's not really safe to do forced exercise with your baby.
