How do you know when your dog needs to go?

Crash rings the bell by the front door like mad when it's time to go #2. When it's only #1 he is not quite as noisy about it. Sometimes he will just stare at you until you take him out.

doggie door for a screen?

Lexi whines and scratches at the door. Where would I find a doggie door for our screen door? I never knew they made these! I work overnight and sleep in the morning/afternoon and Lexi is free all day so I have to get up all the time to let her out - this would be perfect!

When my puppy has to go, he just squats wherever he is at and pees >< frustrating...is there any tricks to let him know to go outside? ive been taking him out EVERY chance I get and punishing him when he pees in the house...

When Moose needs to go

Moose will come into the living room and stand there staring at us. If we ignore him, he will walk back and forth to the front door. He will then get one of us to ask...."you want to go outside?" He will then jump and run in circles. He will then go to the door. We ask him to show us what he wants. He will then scratch at the door.

We are trying to train him to go to the door and scratch without us asking him to. He is slowly getting the hang of it. appicon

Hey!! Try to get a empty tin can, put 20 pennies in it and close it up with duct tape. (leave the can lid on to give better security that the tape will stay on) After your dog gets done with any meal, or playtime, take him outside right away. Paise him with a treat!!! and with happy good dog!!

When he decides to go into the house, (only if you catch him in the act of peeing or pooing) Shake the can really hard and drag him outside. Do not do anything else to him. If he pees outside at that time, praise him with happy good dog voices.

I find My Moose needs to go outside 1/2 hour after eating. He can only play hard for ten minutes and needs to go pee. Moose still shocks me once in a while and just pee for the heck of peeing in the house. I know he knows how to let me know, but I think sometimes he wants to let me know he needs to make sure I am still paying attention to him.

I do not know how old your Boxer is, but it could be a medical thing.

Try getting your Boxer outside right after his meals and after playtime. Praise Praise and more Praise. Boxers are very sensitive. They get very insecure when they get punished.

Moose hated the tin can thing, but I never yelled at him while I did it. I let the "bad puppy god" do it for me. Once I got him outside, I waited until he went potty again. I once waited an hour. But I wanted to instill the good dog praise, so he would know that outside was the place to go pee. Giving him a treat works well too. he will associate the treat with doing something special, and he will want to duplicate it.

I hope that will help you.

thanks for the advice, ya, I do let him know he has done bad when he does go in the house (a tap on the nose and/or a very stern bad dog). I always praise him when he does good with lots of petting and happy dog voices, I make sure that he knows either way. I though, do not think that he makes the connection that the house is off limits when it comes to peeing, I think he just feels the urge and satisfies it asap. I then let him know he has done wrong and I bring him to the place that he is supposed to go. If and when he completes the task, I praise him heavily. It is very hard to have him make this connection as solid as I want it to be since there is multiple people in my house that do not give him as strict of a training that I want him to have. They play with him and not realize that playing = be on the lookout for peeing, and that pee > carpet and then its somehow my fault when the dog does pee or poop on the carpet, it must be confusing for him and I think I am going to tell people to not let him out of his crate unless I am there to do it myself.

I got mine off of ebay. You place one piece on the inside of the screen and the 2nd piece to the outside of the screen and it snaps together then cut the screen for the door part. It's made of plastic so it's not too durable. Mine kept coming apart so that's one reason I opted for takin it off and cutting the screen a little more.
