How do you keep your dog cool in the heat?

Bayleigh is a velcro dog, too. I fill gallon jugs half full of water and freeze. She will carry it around and drink the water as the ice melts. She always has a big bowl of ice water. She doesn't like the hose or the sprinkler. We have a pool and sometimes I will put her in with me...in her life jacket, of course. She isn't real fond of getting in the pool, but once she's in she seems ok! I have tried leaving her in the air conditioned house for a half hour to cool her off, but I thought she was going to break the door down to get out to me!!

Bijou heats up quickly so I hose her off when we are outside. She likes to drink from the sprinkler but does not love it spraying her. It is very funny to watch her go back and forth to it as it moves.

We also keep her inside with the AC and even put a fan on the floor which she will lay in front of.

I may try a kiddie pool to see if she will go in. She uses one at the dog park we go to but you never how she will be at her own home...

I live in AL, you want to feel the humidty, come on down and visit. Today it's nearly a hundred and with our humidty it feels much, much, hotter than that. Syxx absolutely loves to be outside but he can't deal with the heat either. We usually turn on a sprinkler or the water hose and let him play in it. We also give him an ice cube here and there and he lays down in the shade of our butterfly bushes.

......we set the air conditioner to 72 degrees.......Mush prefers it that way. That's how we keep our boxer cool in the summer........

Leila is easy she has two pools one with dirt and one with water. When she is not running like a crazy girl all over the yard she is lounging like a hippo in her pool with Oscar or romping in her cool dirt.
We have water restrictions so we can't turn on our sprinklers. But they also love ice molds that I create for their pool, shade lots of water, frosty paws dog ice cream (think bluebell cups I get them from Kroger), and they can come inside anytime to the A/C.

Oscar did not like the pool at first. Before we filled it I put treats and toys in the empty pool so he would feel comfortable getting in it. I did the same thing when we put dirt in one of their pools. Then once it didn't freak him out we filled it with water and I walked in with him. Oscar will sit in it but not like Leila. She loves water. When we go on walks I take them to a local creek for them to get wet as well.

This Sunday we are going to the dogpark that is off a lake so they can swim.

I cater to our babies every needs so they get whatever they want.

I also like to give them chilled soup bones to gnaw on.

I wish mine like the kiddy pool but it is a no go. We do walk to a nearby lake in the early eve and mornings. NONE of mine will swim but they all like to wade. We have several fans in the barn and one on the deck. Mine think it is a sin to come in during daylight hours. Silly dogs.

Harry is only allowed outside for short (5 minutes or so) intervals when it's extremely hot. He doesn't like the pool or the hose, but will tolerate wetting down with a plant mister. He will step into the pool if it is hot enough, but that's about it. Lots of water, lots of ice cubes..oh, and he licks Sophie, who can't get enough of water in any form. LOL I am going to try giving him a frozen Kong filled with mashed bananas, applesauce and peanut butter. Sounds like a doggie popsicle to me!
