We have an area on the side of our house that our little fur baby does his business in. It is an rocky area and it has begone to smell a lot!!! We live in New Mexico so I cant just hose it down everyday. We are under water limits and you have to pick and choose your water uses wisely! We get rain maybe once every few months so that doesn't help at all. What are some tips you have to keep your area smell free?

side note

Yes, we clean it every other day of the poop. Every so often I use bleach to clean the rocks off.Just wondered if there was another idea.

Maybe consider a switch in diet...what's he/she eating? The more quality foods mean less poops to clean up.

My bf does poop patrol in the back yard every couple of days and the garbage bag stays in the bin outside. I never smell anything.

I clean it up every other day I might miss a day here and there but I can't say that our yard has any kind of stink to it. Is it possible that it's the urine causing the odor and maybe not the poop ?

I pick it up as soon as they've been. I don't want to think they might stand in it and bring it in the house

Similar situation. My mom's dog in Las Vegas used to have a "poop palace" filled with rocks for the dog to go in. It smelled too - especially in the summer! The soil is different in the desert southwest because it's full of caliche (sp?) and so the waste never really takes care of itself, it just sort of sits on top of the clay and bakes. So even though you're picking up the poop, it's probably the urine making the smell. My mom just began walking her dog on a leash to go to the bathroom rather than dealing with the smell. Poop palace is no more.
