Hello again!
I have another question., how do i get buster, 6 month old boxer, to stay outside for longer than 10 min with out barking his head off!~????
He loves to sit near my windows and watch everything outside, but when i do tie him out, he just barks and barks and barks, and looks at the door!
I have tried the spray bottle, and i live in town, so i cant just let him bark, i am afraid the neighbors will call the police! There is no reason for him to stay outside when its very nice out!!!! HELP-------------- thanks,

I have recently been having a similar problem with my 6 month old male. Rather than having him bark when he is outside it is when he is in his crate. It's pretty weird because we only crate him at night when we are sleeping and for a few hours here and there when we go out. We always leave plenty of toys, kongs, etc. but after a while he starts barking like crazy. Our female just sits in her crate next to him and gives him the "evil eye" like she is trying to sleep too. This only recently started so i'm wondering if it has to do with his age. I figure the main reason he is barking is because he wants to be with us... so maybe your boxer is barking because he wants to be with you too. Sorry I don't have any help or suggestions to offer but i did want to let you know you aren't alone! Good luck!

just got a question? while buster is outside , tied down and barking where are you at? maybe one of the reason buster is barking while outside is because he's trying to get your attention. maybe instead of using spray bottle maybe you should start playing with buster everytime you go outside so that way buster will think that it's his playground.

Hmmm, my guess is he's trying to see what he can get away with since your female. My guy Tucker is a barker too but you have to lower your voice as much as possible and say no bark. Also stand very upright and hold eye contact with him until he looks away first, that is also a control thing. And the most important thing, be consistent with the reprimand. I varied it at times due to frustration which made it all the harder to get him to listen.

Another thing we tried and it worked was following in the footsteps of our female boxer who was a mom, gently pin him down and get in his face and say no. This is what an Alpha dog would do and your the Alpha of the house.

The spray bottle didn't work at all since my joker Tucker would open his mouth for a drink...ugh! What about giving him a raw chicken wing to chew on when he goes outside or a chewy. That way it's a positive to be alone outside.

Good luck!

it does sound like he's trying to get your attention, but i personally don't think they should win using that method. i would wait until he stops barking, and the second he stops, shower him with all teh attention in the world. and the second he starts again, completley ingnore him. view barking as an on/off switch for your attention. he should be able to be content even if you're not paying 100% attention to him. that's just my opinion:)

Both my 10 1/2 month old female and 7 month old male bark like crazy when I'm out there with them. (they are onlyout alone on their fenced in area and then they dont bark much at all) When I walk them or take them out to go pee, they bark like crazy at every person they see. I know it's partly because they are so excited to see everyone and they want to run up and lick the people to death but for the people walking or riding bikes by, it seems intimidating. It's especially difficult when someone has a dog with them - they bark SO loudly and pull like crazy trying to get loose from my hands. I tell them no and make them come inside when they do this but it hasn't helped. I'll have to give the "tons of attention when quiet method" a shot.

Boxers like to be with their people and it sounds like he is only barking when left outside alone. Personally I never leave my boxers outside unsupervised, too many things can happen especially if your yard is not fenced in, another dog or person could easily come into your yard. So you may want to consider not leaving him outside alone.

Good luck

Hi, I read this statement and I reread it a few times and I wasn't sure what you meant by it. Maybe i'm just taking it the wrong way. I don't think a dog would try and get away with more because his master is female vs. male. Just wondering!

Hi! Tucker is now 3 and although he would listen when we trained or during class he would react much quicker to a male voice. Especially when he decided to zippity do dah around the yard. It was amazing how much I had to work with him repeatedly as a reminder. Where as our past female boxers we very obedient and less chanllenging. Even my mom noticed the difference when she and dad trained their boys Dakota and Durango who are now 2. And they still try to get away with more with her than dad- go figure.
