Hi. I'm new. My husband just picked up a boxer puppy from a BYB advertising in the newspaper for $200.00 (no lectures, please... I know how stupid this is). Anyway, the puppy has boxer markings and looks very much like a boxer in the body, but the face is too long. I noted with interest this site's tread about boxers with longer muzzles. This gave me the idea that while it is very incorrect, it happens more often than we'd care to think about, because of careless breeding. I wondered if she had some "mix" in there. Then, the breeder sent photos of the sire and dam. They are both white boxers. Sire looks very much like a boxer, but white. Dam is long-muzzled, and never got her tail docked, and does not have papers. She could be virtually anything, but she's deaf, and I don't know if deafness is a concern of some of the bully breeds that are supposed to come in white. Possibly there is a different gene controlling it. I wondered if two white parents could even produce anything but white, but it's possibly something to do with the sw gene, which controls mostly white, but with some spotting. Is this right? Forgive me for being so ignorant on this subject. I read one post from GMacLeod that made reference to a "white boxer's colored littermates", so I get the idea there can be litters containing both.
I am just curious about my puppy's breeding. If I tell people she's a Boxer, they look at me like I've got rocks in my head. When I say she's a mix, they say, "I can see the Boxer in there. It looks like the other half is beagle."
When I figure out how to post a photo, I'll do so. She's cute as a button.
