Our other Boxer Tyson used to do this. Whenever I was sleeping Tyson would come up to the bed, and put his paw up, and whine at me until I would wake up. It's been so long since Tyson's training i've forgetten.

Duke will follow me around whenever he's hungry, thirsty, or wants to go out, the thing is, I have to go through everything before I find out what he wants "Want to go potty?", "Want some water?", "Want some food"? He gets more excited when I say the one he wants, but i'd really like it if I could get him to scratch the door. He drags his water, and food bowl whenever he is hungry, or thirsty. I don't want him to ring a bell, i've heard that one plenty of times.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Princess just started doing this the past couple of days. I didn't teach it to her at all. I don't know if it is common for this to happen but for us that is the case. My advice though is whatever you do be consistant! Good luck!

I also taught Clara to use the bell on the doorknob. Well, I really didn't teach her...she just kind of picked it up. She'd also just stand at the door if she needed to go out and if I was in the other room, I wouldn't know she was there. I put the bell on the doorknob and she would accidentally brush into it. Then I'd praise her and let her out. And soon, she just picked up on it!

Good luck!

We also have Bella trained to ring a bell when she wants to go outside. This week she has started dragging her leash (which hangs with the bell) all over the house with her. I think she is trying to tell us that she wants to go for a walk because she manages to get the leash w/o really ringing the bell. I think she is trying to tell us she wants to go for a real walk not just potty. It is so funny because we have wood floors and the clip of the leash is really noisy when it drags on the floor. She will throw is up and catch it like a toy, then leave it in the room we are in. She just recently started really enjoying our walks and kidney beans like mad at the mention of the word. I am sure your boy will figure out a way to tell you if he doesn't think you know what he needs. Bella sure did:rolleyes: :D
