Hey all,
My boyfriend and I are thinking of getting puppies. I want a boxer and he wants a bulldog. So I think that we have decided to get one of each. But I was wondering if anyone could tell me if these two breeds get along well with each other. We would get both as puppies so they would be together almost from the start. Any other tips or words of wisdom are greatly appreciated!
Thanks

I'm not sure about if the certain breeds of the puppies makes a difference but usually if you get them as puppies and they grow up together it's a sure thing they will get along. :)

If you get them as pups they will get along fine. I personally would get a male and a female since same sex aggression can occur as they mature, especially with two females.

I would NOT recommend the 2 breeds together. Not that they won't get along.......they probably will. BUT, they are very different energy levels and play abilities. I babysit my friend's english bulldog from time to time and it has made me realize that boxers and bulldogs are not a good match at all. The bulldog wants to play like the boxers do but because of their extremely smashed faces, they don't breathe well. They can overheat quite easily and the vet has told my friend not to let him get too overworked or he could overheat and die. So the entire time I have my friend's bulldog, I have to give constant time-outs so that he doesn't get too overheated. Usually he can't play/wrestle for more than 10-15 minutes at a time before he can barely breathe and I have to separate them. Just my opinion but I would never own the two breeds together.....

The best combos for dogs are male/female.......next would be male/male......and lastly would be female/female.......

I've grown up with English Bulldogs, my parents now have two. Completely opposites (energy level and manner) from each other. One is 7, a rescue very laid back, quiet and keeps to herself. The other one is two, I swear she is a boxer in a bulldog's body :) Very active, hops, barks at everything and even does her little bulldog burns in the backyard...just like a boxer.

She gets along great with one of my dogs, she bites his legs, boxes with him and runs rampid with him!! She's a big clown

I personally think it varies on their personalities, bulldogs are supposed to be very hard headed and laid back dogs. But if there brought up together it may be different, b/c the bulldog will always know of the boxers high energy level.

I would do alot of research on bulldogs though, they have pretty bad health problems. There has always been something wrong with all 5 of our bulldogs. My parents last bulldog lived to be 12 years old so she lived a pretty great life!

My sis has a english/french bulldog mix and a boxer. Eppi (the bulldog) and Beta (her boxer) get along great! Eppi also gets along great with my two boxers. She's a little bruiser with them, it's hilarious to watch! Good luck in your decision.

I had two male puppies (boxer and rottweiler) and they fought terribly as puppies. Since they were close to the same age (about a month apart) they began to mature at the same time and challenge each other. Now they are best friends, but it was a tough time. Looking back, I would have done male/female.
