How did you name your Boxer???

Most people automatically assume Tyson is named after Mike Tyson because they are both boxers. This is not true at all. The truth is that my husband had a friend in high school named Tyson & he's always liked that name and we both thought it was a cool name and honestly we didn't even make the connection(Mike Tyson is a boxer/our dog is a boxer) until after we settled on Tyson for his name. I have just mostly always called him Ty for short.

When we adopted our boxer, her name was Celia. We knew we wanted to change it, because the name was just too prissy for her. After one night beside our bed we knew her new name...LC (as in the cow) because she snores all night long, and sounds just like a cow!

Our new puppy is named Trango.
My family is big into rock climbing,
and they make cool equipment so we
thought that would be an original name.
Also explains her middle name (rockhound).

My grandfather named my first boxer, Marty (don't know why), but loved the name.

Then for the next boxer, I liked the name Samantha (& called Sam). She's not named for anyone or anything----just always wanted a girl named Sam.

When I was a little girl, my grandfather would tell me stories about his dog, Teddy. One day I realized these "Teddy tales" covered more than 25 years, so I asked my mom how this could be. She said to avoid confusion with all these different dog names that ALL their dogs were named Teddy!!

We named her Lennox after the current Heavyweight Champ, Lennox Lewis! But since she is a Bitch, we also tell people it could have been the singer Annie Lennox. In actuality she gets called Lexus (by all the neighborhood kids), Lennie, Leonard, Lexy, and Linux!

Tyson was named after the boxer Mike Tyson because of him being a Boxer and he is thick with well defined muscle. His full name is "Ready to Rumble Tyson".

Prudence (Pru) was named after the sister (witch) on the TV show Charmed. This was because she has a special charm with a touch of magic. Her full name is "Prudence's Unforgetable Magic".

Sheeba was named after Queen Sheeba and the song "Let me tell you about love" (I think this is the name) the Judds sing. There's a part in the song that says "Sheeba she was a beuty queen, the prettiest thing that you ever had seen" or something like that. Sheeba is fawn, beautiful and thinks she is a queen. Her full name is "Sheeba's Golden Beauty".

How did you name your Boxer?

Britany was already named when we adopted her. I thought what a goofy name for a dog. Her name is Britany Trembly. I usually call her Brit. Then it becomes Brit the Brat. When in trouble it is Britany Louise. Dont know where I came up with the Louise part but it seemed to fit. The name Britany fits now. No other name would suit her. She is always a Lady. Ya right!

I have two sons and a step daughter who was named after her grandfather (Jamie) so I had the perfect opportunity to use one of those cute little girl names FINALLY! But then when I got her home I was stumped. I knew eventually she would grow up and a cute little girl name wouldn't seem right to me.

So, believe it or not, I went to the computer (we were not online at the time or she probably STILL wouldn't have a name) and put in my Encarta disk and looked up Greek Mythology. I have been interested in mythology since 8th grade literature class but I didn't want something common like Venus so I dug, and dug, and started reading about the muses. The muses were Zues' nine daughters. The patron saints of the arts - literature, music, etc.

Well, when I came across the name Clio, I knew I had it! Clio was the muse of history. She is a Cancer and Cancers are very connected to the past and nostalgic things,(try to throw one of her old chewed up toys away while she's watching!) And it just seemed to fit. She learned it quickly and, well, the rest is history! (pun intended)

[Little Vera]

We decided on the name Vera after listening to the Pink Floyd, The Wall CD. There's a short song on there that uses that name. We liked it, and decided that it was nice and unique. Also, my husband's Grandma's name was Vera. Not to be disrespectful, but out of love, we named our "baby" girl Vera. Tim even called his mom to see if she minded that we named Vera after her mother. People often question our reasonings behind the name, but it fits her well.

I kind of like the name Gaia, from James Taylor's Hourglass CD, maybe our new baby will be Gaia. I am just itching to get a new baby.........
