How can I stop this???

Our two 11 month old boxer siblings will not stop digging holes in the back yard!!! They have done this since we brought them home at two months. At first they were digging huge/deep holes in the middle of the yard but now they have progressed to smaller holes all around the edge of the fence and up against the house.
We have tried the 'No Dig' spray from PetSmart, cayenne pepper, lemon juice, and a few other things. Nothing has worked. I know some people have suggested a sand box or a designated area for them to dig, but that is not an option for us.
I would appreciate any ideas.

The recurring theme of the digging boxers If you search the threads you will see this discussed a lot. If you do not have a spot you can "give" them then your only option, I am afraid, is to always be there with them to redirect them. By the way, you do not need a big spot-I have a small yard myself-and gave my girl a spot under a shrub. Anyway, good luck to you and pup

Someone told me once to put coffee grinds in the hole when you fill it. They dont like the smell i guess. Not to sure if it works , but i do know that Ripley has one hole under the deck and that is where he digs and he never does it anywhere else, so mabey start one where you dont mind having a hole and let them play there, Good luck!!

When I patch one of Chance's holes, he doesn't try to dig it again. I use a 10lb stamper to compact the dirt.

My biggest problem is that my fence is pretty new, so he likes to dig by all the post holes.

I think we will try to fill them and go from there. If that doesn't work I guess we will have to designate an area the best we can.
They have plenty of toys.....why do they dig?? .

They love to dig - it is fun....

If you don't have a particular spot in your yard that you would allow them to dig perhaps you can buy a plastic container that you can fill with sand. In Australia we have children's sand pits that can be used for doggy sand pits. They come in the shape of a rather large shell and can be filled with sand. This may control where your dog digs and is easily refillable with more sand if they spill it out.

Cheap alternative to replacing garden beds or lawn.

If it is too late and your dog has already dug up your lawn if you lay chicken wire over the hole your dog should stay away from it - apparently they don't like walking on the chicken wire.

This is ingenious!! Thanks for the tip. I am thinking I may actually be able to reseed some spots!!

After saying that I hope it works!!! I have never actually done it as my boy has a sand pit and will generally keep his digging in there. It was a tip from a dog trainer - they specifically suggested it to stop dogs from pulling washing off the line - just lay the chicken wire under the clothes line.
