Sunday night I got a call that no wife wants. My DH had rolled our truck 3 times into the icey cold lake. When I received the call I went into hysterics, screaming crying, etc. My DH is now home from the hospital and doing fine. But my two boxers seem very eagy...loss of appetite, and scared.

What can I do to help them? I know I scared them.

Were your boxers with him in the vehicle???.. Or they are stressed becasue they feel the stress of it all at home?

They weren't in the vehicle. Thank HEAVENS. But they were with me when I got the call and I really screamed and cried. I think they are feeling our stress. The only time they popped out of it was when my DH's brother who THEY LOVE came over to see how we were doing.

Since then they have been mopey, not eating, and on edge. Every little noise they run after.

Oh wow. How very scary, I am just glad to hear that he is ok.
I think they will be fine as soon as you and your DH settle a bit ya know. Just spend as much time all of you together as possible maybe. Take it one day at a time.

I am sure when they see that everyone is calm for a while they will go back to normal my dogs don't like it even if we are talking in raised voices they really pickup on tension around the house.

That's one of my worst fears too ... getting that call. I'm so thankful that your DH is doing better and my prayers are with your whole family.

I agree that spending as much time as possible with them will help as I'm sure they're feeling your stress, DH's pain and stress and just the general upset something like this causes. Also, I wouldn't alter their normal routine any more than is necessary because that might cause them more stress. The more normal you can make their lives, the quicker they might adjust or get over this upset.

I'm sure lots of love and snuggles would be appreciated! Keep us posted and God bless you and your family!

So sorry to hear about your husband, glad he's ok. What a scare :(
Dogs pick up on lots of things don't they, maybe a bit of extra TLC and a some special food to tempt their appetite back again might help.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, glad everything is going to be ok.

excuse my ignorance, but what does DH stand for?

Dogs are pretty sensitive animals. They can tell when things aren't right, or are out of place. Even when we are sick, Duke acts differently around us. A bit more calm and willing to just chill on the couch. I'm sure once things settle down a bit the dogs will return to normal.

Like everyone else said, they are just sensing the stress. If it gets out of hand, you could consider buying some natural calming spray, but I wouldn't use any unless you need to;).

I'm so glad that your husband is going to be okay. But I'm sure it's going to take a while for you to be able to breathe again. Same for your dogs. When you are feeling safe and secure, so will they. Give them the time you need to give yourself. Time and reassurance, lots of touching to remind everyone that everyone is indeed okay.
