I think it's a personal decision as to how long you want them crated. some people don't put them in crates while others prefer it. I'm sure you'll get many replies to help you in your decision. Good luck and welcome.

We crate! I think it is important that dogs have a safe haven; a den to go to when they feel frightened, scared, or like they just want to get away. My girl LOVES her bed! There is a lot of good info out there on the web about crate training. If you decide to do it, realize there is a correct way and an incorrect way to do it!

Good luck, welcome to the breed and welcome to the board!

We use a crate and it definately has helped us get off to a great start in housebreaking. Our Zoe goes in the crate whenever we are not able to keep a close eye on her. We give her a treat when she goes in. We'll leave the door open for her to go in and out as she pleases during the day. At night she sleeps in there too. The main thing to be successful with the crate is getting her to go in on her own will. A treat will always do the trick. If you force her, she'll think she's getting punished. As far as how long will it take, I'm still working on that. I posed the same question here: http://www.boxerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11377 You can get an idea from what others have experienced.
Good Luck.
