Well, guess what. My AC shot its wad and quit working last Sunday and it is 'HOT' inside my house. Poor ABBY just can't take it. I've got every fan that I own positioned in and around the house, but all they do is blow the hot air around. But, back to ABBY. She is so miserable. She just walks around trying to find a place where she can get comfortable. She's stopped eating and seldomly drinks her water. And when she does drink, she refuses to go outside to relieve herself. I so feel bad for her. It was just last nightwhen I rolled over in the bed, that I found myself in a wet puddle. I guess she had finally got relaxed enough and peed where she was. Tuesday I started calling every air conditioning place listed in the phonebook but they are all backed up until GOD only knows and I know that it has only been a few days since this has all happened. But something has to give.

Soak a towel in cold water and drape it over her back. Be careful not to make it too cold though you don't want to shock her. Also spraying water into the fans will cause mist and it will be cooler. Give her ice cubes to eat. Get into the car and drive around with the AC on. I donno what else to do :-P this is just stuff I would do.

I just thought of another idea. Get a $10 swimming pool from a retailer and let the dog sit/lay/play in it. Cool and fun :)

When my air died a couple of years ago and it was taking days to get the part, I broke down and bought a window unit and kept the bedroom cool. You can get one for about $100 at Walmart. If you can't afford that, is there maybe a friend that can watch Abby until you get it fixed?

try filling milk jugs with water and freezing them. place them in front of the fan in a container so the condensation doesn't destroy anything.

Dont try to cool a dog down by placing anything on their necks or backs, instead, put the cool wet towel underneath, on their stomachs and chest areas. That cools them down. Wet towels on their necks are just increased weight, and on the back doesn't do anything for cooling them down. But cool their stomachs and chest down and you will see a difference. :)

Ditto this. We had a record high temps a few weeks ago....I put a wet bath towel in the freezer for a bit (10-20 minutes) and then put it on the floor for Johann to lay on. He loved it! A bit messy to clean up, but he was happier. :)
