Well, the local rescue called(Greater Ohio Boxer Rescue), and they are coming by Thursday the 1st to check us out. They've called our references and vet, so I assume everything has gone well. I asked her what to expect, and she basically said just observations and getting to know us. Although, I have to admit, we are still a bit nervous as to what to expect. The only issue that they may have is on one side, we took out 8' bushes down and now have a 4' chainlink. I took it out because it has TONS of poison ivy and Cooper kept bringing it in on us. I don't know if that will be an issue or not. Coop never has tried to jump, but I guess if we need to we'll put a matching fence up once I get the roots out.

Wish us luck. Any advice?

I guess I dont have any advice....we are still waiting to hear back from our rescue group. Hopefully we hear from them soon so we can set up a home visit! Keep us posted on your rescue effort!

Well good luck to you! I know you must be excited. Just talk with your home visit rep and let them know what is going on. We have had some of our rescue dogs jump 6 foot fence and I know there are some that are not jumpers. The best advice is commuication with the rescue group. I am happy that you are adding to your boxer family.

I think it will depend on the dog and also your commitment to supervising outside play. If the dog's not a big jumper (i.e. my Conner), it might be fine, but if he is (i.e. my Tess), it might not be the best situation for that particular dog.

Good luck in any case!

How did your home scheduled go? I am about to schedule mine for tomorrow or Thursday. I wonder if you could give me any advice on what they evaluate?

Thanks

Well, I didn't have the original visit on Thursday because we are fostering to adopt from a different agency. This one came on kind of quick, so it was short and sweet. Basically, from what I was told, is that they were making sure that your home was clean and that you didn't have numerous other animals running around. They wanted to make sure that my exisiting Boxer was taken care of, and they DID contact my vet and both references. They wanted to know where Cooper slept and how his crate was handled while we were gone. They looked at the backyard fence wise to make sure it was secure. Other than that, it was general BS'ing about Boxers and how great they are. There was really nothing to worry about.

I think it is just a general size up of you and your family. I know you can't tell everything about a person from that, but you can tell a lot.

The rule of thumb on doing a home visit is really quite simple. Would you leave your dogs there. I have been to messy house (not dirty or stuff everywhere) and great homes.
