OMG! while I was in the middle of posting a reply, my cat comes FLYING into my office, in hot pursuit of something. It was BIG, had wings, and was bouncing off EVERYTHING! I about peed my pants! All I could think of was BAT!!!
Good thing all 3 of my "fearless (or is that fearful?) protectors were in the room with me. We all scrambled to escape! From the doorway, I discover it is NOT a bat, but the biggest MOTH I have ever seen! Now, I'm not usually afraid of bugs (except spiders), but this thing creeped me out completely! It looked gosh darn prehistoric!! Well, I'm now armed with a broom - which I almost put through the window - and a can of air, you know, that stuff you use to clean out your computer keyboard. This does nothing but put the moth into "fly into your face" mode. I scream, all 3 dogs are HIDING BEHIND ME!!!!!!! We finally escape to the garage, where I find some wasp & Hornet spray, and an old pair of barbeque tongs-I'm ready for battle. The 3 dogs & I creep back in - I thought they were still with me, but they decided to wait in the living room (thanks) I SATURATED this beast - by the way I discovered hornet spray doesn't kill moths...- I then pick it up with the tongs. Remember the tongs are OLD, and aren't quite as springy as they used to be (why do I still have these?-NO IDEA...) so of course, I drop the beast. I let out a little scream, and the dogs are behind me again. Finally, I dispose of it outside, and Lucy & Rascal follow me back into the office- Spenser had enough- he went to bed!!! After they were sure the situation was under control, they curled up at my feet under my desk.
Good thing Hubby is still out of town, I would've never lived it down!! If anyone would've seen me, or heaven forbid VIDEO TAPED ME, I would've died!
Thank goodness I have my 3 guardians to protect me! :)

What a great story! How big was that moth???? That would have freaked me out too and my DH is just like yours - would have totally made fun of me for my frantic behavior (that would be my behavior, not yours ;) ) Thank goodness for your three "fearless" babies that you were there to protect them  Your cat sounds like he's pretty tough however :)

the moth monster...

Well it's amazing... the moth-monster seems to be able to change its size... I was sure it was about 4 ft across with big fangs when it was flying at me, but after I conquered it(insert brave pose here...) it was about 6 inches across - still HUGE by moth standards, but ugh! It was kind of pretty in a disturbing way - it had these orange dots -one on each wing- eww, I just thought of something- it looked like the moth from "Silence of the Lambs" - ugh now i'm creeped out again!

brave kitty

By the way, Simba (aptly named) is one tough cookie- he really doesn't know he's a cat- he thinks he's a boston terrier/boxer mix! He won't even play with cat toys (except feathers) - he plays with the dogs and their toys. About a month ago, he was walking through the living room with one of the dogs hooves in his mouth! All 3 dogs looked at him and then at me, as if to say, "ya know, one of us should REALLY tell him... C-A-T...

Every now and then, we will get a bird in the house. I don't know why they do it, maybe nesting near by. We have lots of excitement trying to coax the bird back out side. That was a great, visual story you told!

Julie, next time you have a flying monster..or a crawling one. Call on MY posse!! Echo and Carson have a thing worked out. Carson despises ants. He will follow them by having his nose to the ground and just walking all the while snorting his breath at them. He kills them but Echo has a taste for them. On the other hand Echo despises flying things..and searchs and destroys them but she just has the pallet for ants..Carson has th taste for flying ones. and if all else fails I have Sassy Kitty who despises anything that doesn't have 4 legs and fur..she is a one kitty destoying team! (or is it Carson hates flying things and Echo hates ants..hummm...now I can't remember. I'll have to watch the next time a non 4 legged, furry mammal tries to invade the Brat Pack's territory )

OMG!!!..What a horror story!..My phobia is an irrational fear of moths..I hate the things (and butterflys)..They always want to fly full pelt at you in the most fearful flappy uncoordinated way, like they are going to get all tangled up in you hair ...I can't even be in the same room as one, I swear I would die of fright!!!....I take my hat off to you in your brave act with the tongs!

Haha, I had a friend who named their stray Dog because of the same behavior... soo cute! Whats funny is, we had a locust fly into the house last night (umm EW and mind you we were both kinda tipsy...) it was makin all kinds of sick noises and freakin out in the floor lamp... Drew couldn't find anything fast so he took off Oakley's collar and used it to try to get the thing to fly out so he could smash it and that just set it off even more!!! Not to mention it was about 2 1/2 inches long and an inch wide and UGGGLLYYY! So I went and grabbed a wooden spoon for him to scoop it out with... by the this time Oakley had peed on the floor! So I took him out and when we were on our way in... the darn locust was on the tile foyer flippin out while Drew scooped it out the door... RIGHT by my face. No he didn't smash it and yes, I screamed. And, of course, Oakley gave us "the look"... It was definitely right to bed for all of us. Freakin bugs.

That story was the best! I laughed so hard and read it to my stepdaughter and we both laughed as we tried to relive it.
Glad you all escaped unharmed.

The survivors recover

Thanks guys - it is even MORE funny today. I must've looked like Lucille Ball (with Lucy being my Ethel) I still am laughing. Thanks for letting me share.
