Today was Zoey's first day home alone in the house as a 'big girl'. She is 14 months and has been crated while we work since we got her, at 2.5 months. For the most part she did great. My couches, wires, trash and anything else you could think they'd get into for the first time weren't even touched. The one thing that we didn't pick up was a package of paper that we keep in between the desk on the floor. Honestly, I didn't even know it was there.

Well....................she found it..............When I got home today, I took her out and then explored the house. I didn't have to go far. I made it from the door, into the kitchen and then into the office. There on the floor was the package of paper. As I cleaned up the office, I noticed that she had chewed a small corner of an end table. I guess things could be worse, but back to her crate tomorrow. What has just killed me is, as I sat here to write this, is that I just heard/caught her chewing on the corner of the same end table. I feel badly b/c I just yelled at her and told her to go into her bed, which is in the living room (not her crate) as I dont' want to use that as punishment. Ohhhh, I feel rotten right now. I guess we just gave her to much to soon.

Awww well you tried! I figure stuff like the paper is "my" fault. Chewing the end table though...oops! Does she have plenty to keep herself busy? I try to keep a lot of toys and bones around for the dogs.

As I have posted before Murph was 2 when he could be trusted out of the crate. Cady, my rescue girl, is believed to be 2 and she has to be crated while I am at work.

Did you leave her out all day? I know my boys would freak out if I left them out alone all day. You should try letting her out for increased amounts of time. She may have thought that you weren't coming back. As for yelling at her, I'm sure a few treats and some hugs will make up for it!!

I feel so fortunate that my 14 month old Boxer "Harley" is left uncrated in the house for 7 hours each day. He has been doing so for the past two months. He is such a devil when we are at home, however; he has not destroyed anything in the house while we are at work.

I leave lots of toys, give him lots of praise and kisses before I leave (and when I return) and leave the tv on for him. So far so good. This is my first Boxer and I will never own another breed. Harley is the BEST.....
