Went out to pick my son up last night and left Remy alone and put the TV on for her, as I usually do. When we came home, my son was upset because I had left the TV on Animal Planet. He said what if Emergeny Vets came on? Remy might be traumatized by having to watch surgery on a dog.
So now he has me thinking that I could have possibly psychologically damaged my dog. (You know how they love to lay on the guilt)

When my kids were babies the experts said if the TV is on in the same room, a cooking show is the best as it has friendly voices and a calming effect. That was probably before Emeril and his "BAM", though. ;)

What TV stations do you leave on for your dog?

Hi,

I often leave the TV for MArtin and i usually prefer cartoon channels. This, however, had some ehhhh...unforeseen consequences ;-) Since these channels in Greece are usually low budget and after midnight they have an "adult" programme, which Martin has accidentally wathed a few times (not to mention he really looked interested in the subject ;-)

Now it's just some cooking shows or some teleshopping channels... to prevent any bad influences and any naughty ideas!

We just leave the radio on for Biff, IMO that is much better than taking a chance on him seeing some "undesirable" tv programme

Anyway, he's in his crate in the hall, and wouldn't see the tv from there

PS/ Are we all mad?

I tend to leave on The Weather Channel or QVC. I figure the talking there stays aroung the same tone with not much excitement, so possibly more calming? I never leave on Animal Planet for fear of them seeing sometihng that excites them to jump tv. ;)

I have the digital music stations so I leave it on the classical music channel. I think in the back of mind that it should have a soothing effect. He's debunked that theory so many times (chewed shoes, etc) but I leave it on anyway. :)

We have digital tv and I had found leaving it on the Spa station actully put Molly in a completely relaxed zone. I am sure that Libby found it very calming as she ate 6 chocolate covered do-nuts that her dad had brought home yesterday............ I am hoping the spa station will calm my nerves when I come home to find the next item that has been chewed!

The two of them really enjoy the Dog Wisperer.

Yes, we are ALL MAD!!! we also leave the radio on, usually the soft rock, b/c the songs aren't TOO slow, but not too jammin' either. :) We keep ours in the hall bathroom (don't worry, it's empty!) to give them room and keep them together (they TOTALLY didn't take to the crate-- Axe busted out of his, and his paws were raw! Poor thing!). Anyway, i think it calms them down, they whine for a second, until they hear the front door open, and know i'm leaving. I've caught them sleeping sometimes when i open the door to let them out-- and they look SO SLEEPY! then of course, the bouncing starts...
