Hi, everyone. Jessica Tiger will have a Holter Monitor put on tomorrow. She 10 years old and likely has the heart thing "Boxer Arrythmic Cardio-myopathy." At least that's the guess at this point. I'm curious - if she does have this problem, are there drugs to treat it? Have any of y'all dealt with this? I took her in because she experience what I thought were seizures, but now perhaps are the fainting episodes (not fainting like what we think of fainting.) Anyway, any helpful experience would be very much appreciated. I know Jessie won't live forever, but I want to keep her as long as I can, and as long as she is her frisky self. Thanks. V

My 9yr old boxer, Boomer was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy about 18 months ago after the vet detected a murmur and we had a couple of fainting episodes (like you a first I didn't realise that's what they were).
He was prescibed a drug called Vetmedin, which is apparently fairly new..well it was at the time. He was meant to take 2 capsules a day but we found it made him too drowsy, so after consulting the vet we dropped to 1 capsule in the morning and he was back to his normal boxer-self!
It's supposed to help his heart beat stronger and more regularly. So far so good. He's only had about 2 faints since then and we don't let him play too hard. He doesn't realise that he can't go as hard as he used to so we just have to limit him sometimes! :)
Ask your vet about it. It won't cure your girl but it will help her little heart do what it needs to do.

Good luck. Let us know what happens.

To Jen

Thanks so much for your response. Can you tell me what Boomer's faints look like, how long they last, etc.? I thought initially she was having seizures. I've only seen two of these episodes, so I don't know if she's having them when I'm at work or not. I'm gone all day and she's alone. I hate to think of her going through these alone. Sounds like our dogs are about the same age. JT's going strong except for this and some tumors and an eye ulcer (sound like she's not fine, but you would never know it to watch her play!) Thanks again - I really appreciate the communication. V
