Holistic care for hypothyroid

Has anyone used homeopathic/holistic healing for hypothyroid? The vet prescribed thyroxin, but I'm curious if I should hold off and try some homeopathic stuff?

No homeopathic remedy is going to replace the T4 that your dog is missing (thyroxine is synthetic T4 hormone). Please medicate your dog as the vet prescribed.

Definitely give the thyroxine.

Iodine is supposed to improve thyroid function, and fluoride found in water can suppress thyroid function--those might be two things you want to research a little more. I don't think anything can replace the artificial hormone you have to give, but I would imagine it's possible that you can at least do things that will decrease how much of it he needs.

I'd talk to your vet about it though. Maybe try finding a holistic vet in your area, if you're interested?

We started bringing our fawn to a holistic clinic here in San Diego. Her T4 was on the lower end and the Vet recommended a supplement that is simply called Canine Thyroid Support, the brand is Standard Process. She has been on it for two months and we noticed that the hair she lost was starting to grow back in. We are going to get the T4 test again soon to see where she is at.

Star just started on T4 thyroxine

We've had a holistic vet for a couple of years now, and we've tried everything for her allergies. He suggested a test which we got, and we got the results back last week. Her T4 was way out of whack, so he suggested giving the thyroxine. He said "as a holistic vet, I typically do not like to give medications, but for some dogs they just need it". I think this is definitely one of those cases.

I'd give the thyroxine for now, but please let us know if you have some success with a more natural method.
