First let me say that I had never heard of dogs getting hives until the other day. Zoe woke up with a bad case of hives all over her body. I had no idea what could have caused them. So i called the vet and they told me to bring her in for a shot. They gave her a shot and some medicine (basically benadryl) to give her as needed. I can't seem to figure out what she could be allergic to. I bought Zoe a new steel prong collar the other day and I am wondering if it is possible that she is allergic to the metal. She didn't wear that collar all day yesterday but when i did put it back on, within an hour or so she had another breakout. Could it be the collar that she is allergic to? She is all cleared up now but I am afraid to put it back on her because that is the only thing I can think of that would be causing it. Let me know if anyone knows if the collar could be the culprit!!!

Sounds like it may be the culprit. The only experience I've had with Boxers and hives was a pup I had many years ago. She was allergic to whatever was used to upholster the underside of our couch...go figure them Boxers!

Cleo gets hives every so often. The first time we took her to an emergency vet 1 hour away at 2 am. Now I see the signs and give her benedryl like our vet says to do. WE were told that it is not unusal for boxers. We still can't figure out what it is she is allergic to.

Bella, our 1&1/2 year old boxer broke out in red bumps around her neck when we put a collar that had metal links on her. As soon as we stopped using it the bumps went away. We have only used nylon collars on her since then and we have not had any more problems.
