My Sadie is 7 months old today:) She has major allergies and her skin is very sentitive. Whenever we give her a bath (which is at least once a week) and whenever she has playdates with other puppies and dogs we know, she breaks out in hives with bumps all over her back. We took her into the vet when we first noticed them occuring about 2 months ago and he wasn't concerned and recommended giving her an antihistamine. The hives go down and eventually they go away. Is there anyone else who has experienced hives before? Any other suggestions?

Try a differnt shampoo. My dog had hives once. Although the cause wasn't determined I think it was the shampoo. I have since switched to a different brand and no hives.

Benadryl is good for hives. I'd suggest a search of the forums using the term "hives" if you want more info, because it is extremely common and there are a huge number of previous threads.

You should also consider bathing your dog less often. Unless she gets extremely dirty, once every two or three months is quite sufficient. You can give her regular brushing and a wipe down with baby wipes (unless she's also allergic to those) instead.

I agree with Miss G. above. I give Max a bath maybe every three months and even then he really isn't that dirty. He is outside, but cleans himself plus I brush him three to four times a week. He loves it. I think by bathing him so much you are taking oils away from his skin. Just mho.
