I've got two boxers, Ali and Frasier. They will be 2 yrs in Feb. 05. The other day Frasier developed hives all over his trunk. I didn't notice anything new or different he ate, unless he got into something in the yard. I have tried to select non-toxic plants. Ali also had a small localized patch of hives. The hives don't seem to itch much, but it's hard to tell since Frasier is a mush mouth, he loves for you to have your hands on him. Should I be concerned, should they go to the vet; is there something that I should be doing to help them go away. Its been 2-1/2 days now.

Nala had really itchy paws for about two days then her face started to turn a little pink. Then when I got home from work the other day, my poor baby's face was puffy and pink with hives. I gave her 25 mg of Benadryl and within 2 hours all the puffiness and redness were gone, on face and paws. Don't know what it was but the Benadryl worked and she hasn't had an outbreak since (this happened last week).

Vegas is a very allergic dog. He gets hives from running through a field and sometimes from laying on the grass. During the summer we have to give him anti histimines to help the icthing. When he does get hives, I give him a benadryl they go down and by the next day they are gone. He has never had them for more than a day. He is still on anti histamines now for whatever he is allergic to, we can't seem to pin point it and we are pulling our hair out trying, he's taking Chlor Triplon right now. I give him (on the vets reccommendation) 2, 4mg tablets twice daily. I would check first with your vet before giving your baby an anti histamine, just in case. Hope you get it resolved.

Harlie got hives once as a small pup...never had them since, Benedryl cleared hers up quick...

Max on the other hand gets hives a few times a year...I have some pics in my gallery of a really bad bout last October...the hives were the size of golfballs!! When he gets small reactions, benedryl works fine, but when he gets his occasional big bout the vet has to put him on steroids for a few days because the benedryl does nothing with those ones... :/ Luckily he only gets the big ones once or twice a year...this year he has only gotten them once.
