Hi

Al has had a bit of a tummy upset for the past 3 days and a running backside. This morning he got up and cannot put any weight on his back legs. It started off with just one leg and to be fair once he gets up, it is the one leg once he gets going.

We had him down at the vets because it did frighten us a lot. The vet said it could be toxin effecting him and thinks it maybe something to do with his upset. He is healthy other than that and wants to eat and drink. He has been given antibiotics and we have to take him back tomorrow but I wondered if anyone has seen this before?

He is scared and does not want to get up at all.

Hi

Don't know what he gave him but he gave it in a jag in his neck. He told us that is was a strong antibiotic which should see off any toxins that maybe in his system. Al is a fit dog and is coming up for 3 years old, with no previous problems with his limbs. It is almost like he is stiff and unable to get up himself. Once we do manage to get him up he is slow on his back legs but the more he walks the better it gets. Not jumping around by any means.

He has eaten all his food at lunch and his temp is normal?

Louie was on cephalexin (pills- antibiotics) for about 6 days and I noticed he started having trouble getting up and being very weak in the back legs. I did some research and found few articles where other people noticed that same thing when taking this medication. I went to the vet and told him about these articles. He never heard of this side effect but told me to stop the medication (he was close to finishing them anyways) and within a day or two he was back to normal. I'm wondering if maybe the shot the vet gave Al might of caused the reaction. Maybe try to call your vet to see what antibiotics they gave him and ask how long it takes to be out of his system. Please keep me posted. Good Luck.

Hi

No Al had this problem first, that is why we took him to the vet. He could not stand up by himself this morning. So worried about him.

Sorry I'm not sure what it could be. Our other boxer woke up one Saturday morning and didn't put any weight on one of his hind legs and the vet said it's probably a soft tissue injury and we scheduled to get the leg xrayed. On Sunday he started putting weight on the leg and by Monday he was pretty much back to normal. Hopefully it's an injury that will resolve on its own. I know how worried you must be. All the best to Al.

What a difference a day makes!!

What ever the vet gave him - it worked. As the day wnet on yesterday, Al became more and more mobile. This morning, it is like yesterday never happened. Took him to see the vet, who could not believe the improvement. He has a further 5 day course of Synulox to take just to make sure that what is was has completely gone but he is even trying to do his normal 360 jumps.
