High PH level

Several months ago, our 4 1/2 yr old brindle boxer Lexi developed a bladder infection. When they treated her for this, they found that her PH level in her urine was a "9". Normal is "7".
We watched this for several weeks to see if it would drop on it's own, but it did not.
At the time, she was on a raw diet. The vet suggested we switch her to a kibble. We did this, and her PH level is now back to normal.
I would really like to get her back on the raw diet again.
Has anyone had this experiance with a high PH level?
If we cannot switch her to a raw diet, does anyone have suggestions on what is a good kibble for boxers?

My boxer has high ph levels

I have been searching the internet all night for reasons, and what happens when a dogs PH level is high, with no luck! My vet put my 2 1/2 y.o female fawn on Hill's Prescription Diet c/d kibble. she just started it on Thursday and I have to go back in 2 months to get her levels checked. What did you put yours on to get the level normal.

Thanks for any info.

We put Lexi on 'California Natural" kibble.
Our vet recommended a kibble that they sell (can't remember the name), but we went to our pet store and asked them to recommend something. Since they also breed dogs, I thought they might know something to try.
She was on it for 2 weeks, we tested her PH and it was back to normal. We tested her again 2 weeks later and it was normal.
But after reading some of the diet info on this website, I'm not sure I want to keep her on kibble. I would prefer to switch her back to raw dog food. We had her on "Mountain Dog Food" which is not something you buy at a butcher. It is already prepackaged and frozen.
I'm hoping that someone could recommend a raw diet that would help keep her PH level at normal.
We purchased PH strips ourselves in order to test her urine.
They seem to be fairly accurate. Better than taking them to the vet a million times to be tested.
Let me know if you find out anything as I also searched the internet for information and could find nothing.

Have you considered feeding your own raw instead of pre-made? Maybe, by some unknown reason, the pre-made you are feeding just isn't working for her. I'd check out the ingredients in it, what meats are in it. I don't know that brand so I don't know how they package. Maybe you could just try buying meat at the butcher or store and giving that a try?? I don't know, just throwing ideas out. :)

You should also consider the higher PH could have been the result of the infection, or a false positive altogether. You should really get her back on RAW as soon as possible, and this time, try a whole prey model diet, rather then pre-made which often times has veggies, supplements and vitamins included which the dog doesn't need. Switching a dog from raw to kibble can have no good affects on their health overall...

What is a whole prey diet?
If you buy from a butcher what is that you buy?
Do you have to grind it up?
Sorry, I'm unfamiliar with anything but the raw dog food we have purchased pre-packaged.
Any help would be great.
Thanks so much.

I believe a prey diet consists of 80% meat, 10% bones, and 10% organs; no veggies or supplements needed, as long as the meat comes from a variety of different sources, and the organs are varied as well. Grinding isn't necessary either, unless you prefer.

I've been browsing threads in the Raw Reeding forum for a few weeks now, and found enough information there to take the dive into raw feeding myself :) I found fresh chicken leg quarters at the grocery store last week, and for a very decent price too. So Caney and Creek have been eating chicken for dinner the past week; I just set the whole thing (leg and thigh) on a towel (meals have been served in the backyard lately) ;) and let them go at it.

Here's a few threads I found to be helpful (including mine) :)

I would suggest doing some more reading in the Raw Feeding forum, and asking questions there if you need to. :)

Thanks so much for your help and taking the time to find the links.
I still have tons of questions, but I will post those on that forum instead.
I really do appreciate it.
I am a big believer in raw dog food versus kibble.
When we felt we had to switch to kibble, I was very concerned.
I am hoping to get our Lexi back on the raw diet very soon.
Take care.
